Alex Neil

i could conceive a reply but oit would be to demosntrate my view that your assumption could be flawed..
but not that it defintiely is, and Im trying to be less pendantic on here
there was no decent argument to be had in response. would have been waffling bull crap for the sake of subjective argument.

subjective is the key word...your reason for the assumoption is valid..
my reason for my assumption is also valid..
but as you say its all subjective so we dont need to take it further

Our players are better. Give him time to mould
We've had barely a striker all season , patched up defence for quite a bit also only one real out and out full back playing regularly. Mowbrays showed him how to manage in the championship.

I just read that as total bollocks...sorry

And what happens if they finish above us? Say, next season? Will that be Neil showing Mowbray?

Did a fantastic short-term job to get us out of that God forsaken league and will always be grateful to him for that but in the medium to long run, Mowbray is a far better fit with what we're trying to do.

I think both are good quality managers. He will sort Stoke out Iam sure, but he was a good fit for us and I think he may come to regret his decision to leave. Perhaps he is one of those managers who are just a bloody good coach and leader but crap at recruitment. He might not like the DofF buying the players but he was very successful with it.

Interestingly in the great Clough and Taylor partnership it was Taylor who found the players and Clough was nothing without him

He'll be fine and so will we. Players on the beach now and the groundwork is being done behind the scenes for a very busy summer. This current run will probably help refocus a few minds in the recruitment department as to exactly what needs doing.

Good luck in your play off push. 👍
Sorry mate but that's a load of shit. We were on the beach after you lot beat us and our season appeared to be over. Yet Mowbray managed to haul us through some really difficult games and get us within spitting distance of the playoffs. Alex Neil is a bluffer mate.

personally think they are both good managers witin this league. eternally grateful to neil for last season, left under very weird cirsumstances and we got a very capable replacement

Different situations though. We started off on a much lower bar after a poor start under O'Neill. We also have only 9 players under contract at the end of the season, and 3 of those aren't fancied by Neil so there are a lot of moving parts in the club at the moment.

Most managers are bluffers to be fair. It goes with the job.

Are you expecting to bring in around 15 players this summer?

I guess Tezgel and Lowe should be part of the first team squad proper next year reducing your need to bring players in a bit.

I don’t agree with this revisionism. He was absolutely class for us. Took him 4 months to sort out what we’d been messing about with for 4 years. The fan base was united behind him which is some achievement. He kept players fit. He called out crap when it was there to be called out. The reason we reacted badly when he left is that none of us wanted him to go. He will sort Stoke out and probably get them promoted once their transfer embargo ends. Class manager and it looks like he left us for strategic (the model) and financial reasons.

For those who rate him as better than Mowbray in particular, why is he doing so badly at Stoke?
Worse players.
I don't actually think he's very good. He's probably decent but we give him a lot of praise for getting us out of league one. I reckon that's more down to the fact the previous managers were f***ing shit. I mean, look at the squad he had man. By the end we had Patterson, Roberts, Clarke, Stewart, Neil, batth, Evans, onien, pritchard. All of these have proven themselves perfectly capable of playing at the upper end of the championship. Wright as well, easily a top L1 player. I think what time has shown is that we had the kind of side that should have walked league one. The fact they didn't is more a negative reflection on previous managers, rather than a sign that the one who finally did it was anything more than decent
Lotta truth in that mind. I always felt our failures in League 1 were through managerial incompetence rather than personnel.

That said, I do wonder if Mowbray would have gotten us promoted last season. To me, albeit in a division higher, we're back to the ya win some ya lose some days of LJ's tenure. Mind Mowbray's better than that weapon.

I think they’re really similar. I think Mowbray plays better “looking” stuff (probably through it being all we can do, so it’s drilled in) but I really admired Neil’s ability to pick and choose a team to beat the opposition on the day.

Tbh I’d back Neil to beat Mowbray in a hypothetical play off final due to that
This. I don't think Mowbray's got that in him.

Yet he managed to do what three other managers failed to do before him and get us out of League 1.

Not to mention he inflicted our biggest ever defeat at the SoL just weeks ago
To be fair, the previous managers didn't have that squad.
Got them from relegation candidates out of trouble with a shite team. If they have cash to spend they’ll be playoff contenders next season imo.
They were 1 point behind us when he was appointed, and they'd only played about 5 games. Nobody was a relegation candidate at that point. They were 17th in the league when he was appointed, and they're 16th now...

Given what you’re saying re only having nine players under contract come the season’s end, it will be interesting to see who you bring in assuming that Neil wants to be his own man regarding recruitment, then we’ll see the fruits of his fancies next season.

Is it not time to move on yet?

He got us up, then fucked off for more money. We've went on to have a superb season since and he's not been missed.

It's a bit like when that story about James McLean got posted at the weekend, I'm mean who really gives a fuck?
