Alex Neil signed improved terms 4 weeks ago

Of course AN wanted it in

Meant if a better offer came in there would be nothing stopping him from taking it - whether it was Bet365 City or Saudi United or whoever

SAFC Board’s job was to negotiate that term out of his contract so we have some stability

Obviously they were not prepared to pay the price AN wanted so what happened next was almost inevitable after they saw how much better AN had Sunderland playing than Stoke

Bear in mind FFP stops Stoke strengthening by poaching our players - we left the door wide open for them to do something arguably more effective and poach our manager

Club is being badly run

You can't negotiate something out of the terms if the person you're negotiating with considers that term to be non-negotiable.

And, if he said I am not signing unless that clause is in? Which I suspect he did, its not the club, its the snake of a manager, anyhow, dont bother responding to me if you want to blame the club for the actions of that f***ing bald Hobbit

Club is being badly run

You can keep repeating “club is being badly run” but you’re ignoring the facts.

Alex Neil knew the score when he took over in terms of his deal and the recruitment.

Alex Neil happily signed improved terms a matter of weeks ago.

Alex Neil fucked his players off on a match day to go and watch a team he isn’t contracted to.

The decision making hasn’t always been good, but the above doesn’t scream badly run club, it screams money grabbing liar.

Then he signs or leaves. He left anyway. A month into a season so it's not like we avoided it.

The club can negotiate as much as they like but if Neil says there's no way it's coming out of his contract what do they do, just tell him to fuck off?

"We had a really well structured contract for when he [Neil] moved into the Championship," explained Speakman

"It had the appropriate up-lifts, etc. We had a discussion in the summer because we wanted to reward him and almost provide a well done. That contract was redrawn up and was only signed four weeks ago.
Then hold him to it so he can't sign for anyone else, then bring in another coach to advise on team affairs 😉

This is a particularly daft part of the argument.

How adequately we have or have not strengthened the squad after promotion will only become obvious over the rest of the season.

What is obvious now is that the SAFC board were not prepared to invest the money in tying AN down to a long term contract (presumably to save money a la ticket office, club shop, safety net etc etc)

Nor were they willing or able to outbid for his services.

Fair enough dont get into an auction with BET365 which ruins the club but why leave us vulnerable to this by not tying AN down to a long contract to protect us from him being poached

I have absolutely no confidence that the SAFC board wont make exactly the same mistake with contracts for Patterson, Dan Neil, and LND

Just short term cheese-parers out of their depth

He just signed on improved terms 4 weeks ago and how exactly do you stop a manager from leaving if he clearly wants to go?

You've clearly just got a bee in your bonnet about the club mate.

Ultimately yes - and find a manager who will be prepared to work on a long term contract

But these terms have their price - and what i suspect is that the cheese paring idiots (who closed the ticket office, club shop and are not prepared to pay 20k for a safety net) refused to pay that price

Leaving us vulnerable to AN being poached with no notice and no compensation

We don't know he knew the score tbf. Could have been told one thing and we did another - nobody knows what went on before.

All managers and players get increased eages on promotion. It's so standard the club didn't even bother telling anyone until now.

An offer came in for Neil on Friday morning and he wanted to leave. He either stays to lose a game v Norwich not giving a fuck or he vacates immediately - I'd prefer him to fuck asap if he wanted away. Bollocks to letting him manage a team he doesnt want tk then jump in a car at full time.

Screams he wasn't happy. If he was money grabbing he wont have rejected WBA and Stoke previously and certainly wouldn't be nicking off first offer.

I dob't think when he took the job on, his master plan - when he had mkre to lose than gain - was a move to Stoke in 6 months time.

Where are you getting this no compensation from?

So by sticking with the contract the club have protected themselves in terms of compensation rather than allowing him just to walk away for free.

Sticking with a release clause? He had a rolling 1 year contract. Compo will be nominal if anything. Depends on the clause. I don't think anyone knows what the clause is do they?

The hate for my comment on this thread is hilarious. Neil wants proven experienced players Speakman doesn’t.. why would he stay when he ain’t getting the players he wants
Did he not know what he was signing up for when he joined us though ?

The only person responsible for this, in my opinion, is whichever cheese paring clown agreed to such a short term cheap contract.

As Benno said yesterday “you had the crown jewels and you then left the door open for someone to take them off you”

Club is being badly run
Well said

All cheese paring, amateur, not clever enough to be snake oil salesmen.

Sneakman.
Fauntelroy.

Great shout from Gary with the quote.

I think you have a bee in your bonnet about AN

All he did was respond in the way any other successful manager on a short term contract would if another club offered to double or triple his salary

How many other clubs have tried to poach Speakman btw? Or our current CEO?

From what I've read/seen the clause allowed him to speak to other clubs, not be released from his contract.

On what basis though? Clause might kick in id a specific term hasn't been invoked etc. Clause could just be to leave if another offer came in. Nobody knows. Nobody either on club or Neil's side has offered any clarification.
