I guess we'll see who he buys at Stoke to find out.

stoke city aslo have a sporting director/head of football operations as well as not being able to buy anyone. it's a quandry why he's gone there. i'm guessing he's been promised more control over transfers there than he had with us, or he just couldn't work with speakman (or a combination of both).

Going for money, I'm not particularly arsed about that - so be it.

Him claiming hes going because we haven't backed him in the transfer market is what rankles. An utter shite smokescreen and a lie.
That's what I think. He is lying. He was going regardless of salary, recruitment etc. It seems pretty apprent that he came in and used us to get off the dole with the intention of moving when he got the opportunity. That his family live 50 miles from Stoke simply must be a major driver. And that is fine but for him to come out with that 'lie' suggests he lacks basic integrity but also lacks ambition for his career to progress regardless.

More money, more security, more control without the sound of reptilian breathing asphixiating him.

You’ve invented a whole scenario to blame this wholly on the club here mind. Truth is we know very little, except AN is a man who was happy to turn up to watch his new club away from home, while his current employers lost at home.

Says everything I need to know about the situation and the man.
I have no interest in inventing anything on behalf of AN

I thought he was an excellent manager who improved the way the team played and seemed to prepare meticulously for every match

Also able to adjust tactics and make substitutions better than any other manager I have seen recently at SAFC.

That he was able to leave for a rival at short notice can only mean his contract did not prevent that from happening - something it was the club’s responsibility to ensure was in place

No doubt AN would say a longer contract would come at a price - anyone in his situation would do that.

You can only assume the club were not prepared to pay that price and that left us wide open to one of main rivals for promotion coming in and poaching our manager on the cheap at a crucial stage of the season.

Of course AN moved for money - the rumour is that Stoke have doubled his wages but he is a football manager for money - he doesnt cone from Sunderland nor is he doing this for fun

The responsibility for us being left without a manager as the transfer window closes, with the best manager we have had recently now at a rival rests squarely with the SAFC board

The club is being badly run.

Let’s hope they get their fingers out, appoint Mowbray on the best terms and get cracking on strengthening the squad - and not with cheapo 18 year olds with no experience of playing at Championship level football

Time to wake up and smell the coffee

Them doubling his wages is the main motivator.

He got an improved contract on promotion, then asked and was granted another one four weeks ago, he’s only interested in cash.

Totally disagree.

Totally disagree.
Fair enough

But then explain why SAFC left the manager who finally managed to get us out of League One on a contract whereby a rival could hire him at no notice with no compensation due to the club?

The only person responsible for this, in my opinion, is whichever cheese paring clown agreed to such a short term cheap contract.

As Benno said yesterday “you had the crown jewels and you then left the door open for someone to take them off you”

Club is being badly run

According to you!
This is a particularly daft part of the argument.

How adequately we have or have not strengthened the squad after promotion will only become obvious over the rest of the season.

What is obvious now is that the SAFC board were not prepared to invest the money in tying AN down to a long term contract (presumably to save money a la ticket office, club shop, safety net etc etc)

Nor were they willing or able to outbid for his services.

Fair enough dont get into an auction with BET365 which ruins the club but why leave us vulnerable to this by not tying AN down to a long contract to protect us from him being poached

I have absolutely no confidence that the SAFC board wont make exactly the same mistake with contracts for Patterson, Dan Neil, and LND

Just short term cheese-parers out of their depth

What's a cheese paring clown?

Edit: where has it been said we won't get any compensation?

Let's wait for our statement on it.

And if your contracts states that, even if you accept the increased pay, your employer must let you leave for a better offer with minimal notice of course you would accept the increase- even if you thought you were worth more

The problem here was that our Board, presumably to save money, were content to leave the free movement clause in the contract rather than offer AN an increase to get rid of it

Which allowed Stoke to poach a key rivals manager right at the crucial point of the transfer window with minimal compensation.

Sure they blew us out of the water with the wages they offered AN but if he gets them into the play offs and then promoted it will seem like chicken feed won’t it?

Let’s just hope the SAFC Board learned from last season and before next match the new manager is in place - and I personally hope it is Tony Mowbray
Do you know the board were content to leave that clause in? because I dont believe that for one moment. There is only one person wanted that clause, The Snake Neil

I agree, sadly. It will be a big surprise to me if Stewart stays. In fact I think there's more chance that he will be off to Rangers and the Champs League 🙁.

Apparently AN insisted on the rolling contract with the clause he cud speak to other clubs. If we hadn't agreed, he wudnt have come. He knew what he was doing, had a plan and has executed it.

Of course AN wanted it in

Meant if a better offer came in there would be nothing stopping him from taking it - whether it was Bet365 City or Saudi United or whoever

SAFC Board’s job was to negotiate that term out of his contract so we have some stability

Obviously they were not prepared to pay the price AN wanted so what happened next was almost inevitable after they saw how much better AN had Sunderland playing than Stoke

Bear in mind FFP stops Stoke strengthening by poaching our players - we left the door wide open for them to do something arguably more effective and poach our manager

No AN wanted that contract and those clauses in it, as he knew exactly what he was doing.

Never had any intentions of staying here long term. Used us, plain and simple.

First time I've seen mention of no compensation. Do you have a link to this?
