No evidence of this when we were leaking goals I'm obsessed with the past I'm not put it's hypercritical wanting one manager out after 15 games when the one you like had 30. You were also slagging Neil off after one 40 minute training session
there is he had a 52% win ratio with us vs neils so far 37%. People can hate johnson, and say I love him, all they want. But the fact is he hasn’t made the situation much better at all. We’ve had relatively easy games since he came in and there’s been vanishingly small signs of any progress. That may not be his fault, I think changing managers mid season is a nonsense and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
If he fails to get us failure it will be an absolute abject failure? What the fuck are you on about?
If he fails to get us into the play offs it will have been an abject failure on his part, apologies.

Well I think Johnson probably would have got us promoted this season. Especially given the games which we’ve now squandered with dodds and neil. It’s difficult to praise neil for sneaking us into the play offs when his predecessor had us third 7 points clear of there when he was sacked...

I wouldn’t be heaping praise on Neil for getting us into the play offs. If we win the rest of the games from hereon-in this season he’ll have done a good short term job.

Johnson failed. The trajectory was downwards. Everything pointed to that.

You’re not happy with Neil who has taken 12 points from his 8 fixtures (goals scored 11, goals conceded 5, GD +6) yet argue we’d have had a better chance of promotion under Johnson who took 12 points from his last 8 fixtures (Goals scored 15, goals conceded 17, GD -2). None of the indicators were good for Johnson I’m afraid.

Neil may or may not be the answer. Jury is out for me. But your stance is currently absurd

My logic is that you’d of been better off keeping a manager until the end of the season and seeing if they could achieve promotion when they were third in the league. Somehow we have managed to turn an automatic promotion bid into scrimping and scraping for a play off spot.

In what way has the club benefited this season from his sacking?

Its not absurd to expext Neil to achieve a play off finish with this squad.

We had just been beaten 6-0 off a bottom of the half side. It wasn’t the first time we had been completely shown up either

Johnson had to go, the way they handled his replacement is more than questionable

No. I still expect Neil to achieve play offs with this squad despite inheriting a bit of a shite situation.

But you’re suggesting he’s made things worse, reduced our chances of promotion or that our form hasn’t got to Johnson levels. I’ve demonstrated that he’s more or less delivered the same (from a trickier starting point given the players fragility when he arrived). In fact, in some metrics he’s improved things. More clean sheets and a better goal difference compared to Johnson’s most recent 8 games (Johnson’s previous 8 games to his last 8 yielded 14 points with a GD of +2 by the way too so still not much better than Neil by the way).

Jury’s out on Neil still. It isn’t on Johnson. We were going in the wrong direction.

For context, and you are right that we were shown up disgracefully more than once, he had us 3rd. I assume you’ll be saying Neil must go if he cant even get us into the play offs?

It may not be from his hand but yes, the games that he’s taken have dented out promotion hopes. Failing to be beat Lincoln, Charlton, Burton and Wimbledon is extremely poor. His football has been absolute shite as well and he doesnt seem to have a clue about what his preferred line up is, other than Corry Evans will be playing.

When you make these statistical comparisons remember one guy got sacked for that performance, with harder games and with less players...
Worry if we don't get up that he won't stick around. We need to keep him
Why...

I assume you wanted Johnson out in the summer

I’m not going to sugarcoat Neil like. I think we have started keeping clean sheets after dropping Doyle who defensively is an utter liability.

We don’t like we have got much going forward though

Johnson wouldn’t have. Our position was false due to having played more games and as others have pointed out everything pointed to downward trajectory. Form, hammerings, only win in 7 very fortunate, confidence drained, young players running on empty. However changing manager and not having one lined up was a massive mistake and if we miss our the two defeats against terrible opposition under the caretakers will be a reason why. That’s not Neill fault though nor was the shitshow he was left.

Think he's a good fit and believe he can sort us out if given a fair chance.

Well harder games is subjective. We’ve had Wigan away and MK Dons at home in Neil’s eight fixtures. They may make up the top two by season end.

Just as a reminder, in Johnson’s last 8 fixtures we lost to today’s opponents (who you’re now calling an easy game), drew to Accrington and were beaten 6-0 by a midtable team. The trajectory was downwards and he had to go to give us a chance of automatics. The club fucked that outside chance up in a two week shambles that saw us lose to two poor sides.

Neil inherited that shambles. His set of results have neither been inspirational nor dreadful. He’s made us more resilient at the back which was essential. Five performances have been poor with some good results, three performances have been good but not necessarily yielded the results.

I didn’t want him either by the way but you’re just being daft

wigan had multiple games in hand. Sheff Wednesday, 11 points behind us in 8th at the time, had two games but nobody else did. We were two points from top despite games in hand. We were sloppy in some games, namely Accrington and Lincoln and we’re unfortunate with a skeleton crew at Wycombe despite playing some brilliant stuff, probably the best we’ve played away from home.

The Bolton defeat was a bit of a surprise to everyone given how we’d played for two months and was a complete knee jerk decision.

Neil inherited a very talented squad of players, gave excuses which people have bought about players being ridiculously burned out (which didn’t help in subsequent performance when your manager is saying he’d play someone else if he could). He had new signings to bolster what was a covid and injury depleted squad that LJ didn’t have as well as some players now returning from injury with a far easier set of fixtures, most of which were at home where our form had been excellent. The two caretaker games withstanding, he needs to be getting this squad into the play offs or he’s finished here.

He’s tightened the defence which was imperative, shame LJ couldn’t see that. He is a dour Scot but he knows how to get promoted if not this season then I dare say he will have us winning the league next

They were ridiculously burnt out. Doyle come straight from academy football into playing first team football every single week. He’s simply a dreadful defender

MK Dons were absolutely gash mind, it was a disgrace we lost to them. Of course Johnson’s last games weren’t great, but sacking him did the exact opposite to giving us a chance of automatics, they actively sabotaged any chance we had of the. Whatever you think of johnson the players were clearly on board and it dented their confidence hugely when he went.

Neil hasn’t helped himself by insisting we play negative anti football which doesn’t suit us, particularly at home and is struggling to get a tune out of the leagues top scorer. My point is simple, he needs to at least get us play offs or he’ll be gone. Which will be fair enough for me.

Interesting you mention the Wycombe game, you are right it was probably the best we had played away from home. Saying that our defence was a shambles that day and has been all season until AN came in. Teams don’t get promoted with shit defences and LJ had no clue how to solve that issue.
