Alex Neil and Stoke have acted disgracefully

I have no agenda. I agree he was better than Grayson, Coleman, Ross, Parkinson and Johnson. But they were also the worst managers in our entire history. Sorry, getting Sunderland out of League One isn’t a miracle, as evidenced by those who failed getting sacked. It’s like getting a big six club in the top four, it’s not a miracle, it’s the remit of the job.
I never said it was a miracle mate, but from where we were,it was exceptional.

It’s business. They’re paying Neil what’s he’s worth after being undervalued here despite performing a miracle.
Could we match Stoke City's offer? Again the huge point being missed is Neil accepted and felt the pay rise he was given 4 weeks ago was acceptable. We then offered him a further pay rise, which he rejected. Why should we break what we're building to offer Alex Neil over the odds? No offence to the bloke, but he's Alex Neil! He done a good job, but Jesus we'll go onto better things than him.

We should have sat him down after Wembley, offered him what he wanted then, on a long term contract. It was obviously possible and it’s something Nick Barnes confirmed. He said the club/ Speakman/ KLD was arrogant enough to think he wasn’t going to go anywhere

We can't just offer anyone what they want. End of the day, the club have a model they are following and quite clearly won't break it for anyone.

It's been successful so far, so it's a process that needs to be trusted. Alex Neil got greedy, simple as that.

Fuck Alex Neil for dropping us in the shit 5 games in, fuck Stoke for clearly tapping him up

Not so much a case of "tapping up" as "lapping up". They’ve absolutely loved what they have done I bet. And that hurts. They knew what it would do to us to take a manager from us barely a year into his reign and how much it would set us back to stop something good no sooner than it has got started again after more than 4 years. For more than 4 years the wheels of progress has not been going because for more than 4 years all we have seen is failure and dissapointment. It doesn't just go back to our relegation to League One or even relegation to the Championship. It happened long before that. Now the moment those wheels have got started again we have seen it stop.

When A**x Ne** arrived we all thought "Great! We finally have someone who can steer us in an upward trajectory and we can finally start climbing back up the leagues from mid-table in League One to maybe even the top of the Championship and back into the Premiership. We have someone who can sign players who are finally good enough and want to play for the shirt and aren't lazy and uncommited like Rodwell or ill-diciplined like Darron Gibson. We finally have a manager capable of getting us back into the winning habit". And for a few months that was the case. But a few months is barely any time at all. But all that has come to a stop the moment it has got going. And it is all due to S**ke C*t*.

I don't know what a rolling contract is exactly but I am sure it is not a green light to go after a manager barely any time after he has got his things unpacked and his new Biro used. Go after a manager but give it some considerable time and after he has done something of significance. Not just one thing but several things. Make sure he has established the club first.

This just stinks of Stoke being concerned and worried that despite having many years on us we look to be overtaking them despite us spending 3-4 seasons in League One.

Nick Barnes is the Ken Barlow of commentators. Doesn't really like the regime at the club so he'll say any old shite

So Preston managed to keep him despite Stoke wanting him but we couldn't?
It just gets worse.
I think it was mentioned on the match stream last week Radio Stoke, he did a few interviews while at Preston as he had similar contract but couldn't agree terms with Stoke at the time, think WBA was the other. You have to consider this was his plan all along, he didn't want a L1 club said it in a few interviews but couldn't get a job, he hit the ground running which helped us.

Little soundbites along the way have always suggested he has a high opinion of his ability and won't stick around if not happy.

What annoys me is that he was never as invested in the job as we all thought/hoped. assumed we had a 4-5 year coach totally focused when the truth is more likely Stoke was always lined up as MON faltered and the relationship was there.

Be nice to get back to football again

Its’s business, pragmatic, professional not sentimental, head over heart etc etc. Aye, but he’s still handled it in a way that really stinks and I’m pretty sure he had an agenda in which the likelihood of this happening was pretty high on the list.

Exactly

Neil and stoke have just proved that they don't give a toss.the worst part about it is watching neil on the highlights show on sataurday shaking hands with stoke hierarchy when he was technically still our manager.disgraceful

Neil should not have gone to their match while he was still SAFC manager. It was terrible behaviour.

But ultimately, I do not blame him one bit for leaving and how many of us can say we'd act differently if (like Neil) we were dealing with two clubs who there was no underlying affinity towards?

We were paying him a pittance for the division, which they trebled, and also trebled the length of time on his contract. Yes, he just signed a new deal with us, but our board and sporting director should be smart enough to understand if they're underpaying a key employee who has been vital to our success, they will lose him if there is a reasonable alternative. Do we expect him to hang around when the board are hedging their bets on him with rolling contracts? No, and if the next person comes in on that type of 'prove it' deal, I suspect we'll lose them as soon as they have any success too.

I sadly think we're more likely headed towards a Watford model than long term stability.
If he thought he was undervalued he shouldn't have signed the f***ing contract. How many f***ing times does this have to be said???

So did Sunderland when they took Cotterill and going back further Alan Durban, both from Stoke. It happens in football. Seems like it’s ok when Sunderland do it but highly unacceptable and underhand when anyone else does.

Did Durban and Cotterill miss a Stoke game to watch Sunderland while they were still under contract to Stoke? Don't think so.

Was clear from his first interview where he whinged about dropping into League One that Alex Neil only cares about Alex Neil. Tbh, if we ever wanted to push on in this league I’d have wanted rid of him anyway, we both got what we wanted out the relationship now time to fuck off and forget about it. Just find it hilarious how Neil was supposedly the man of principle who was on the level of the game and his predecessor was the tosser only interested in his own brand 😂

The way in which both these parties have behaved is a disgrace and if there is any justice in this world they will both fail miserably.
What goes around comes around. Karma is a bitch.

He didn’t want a long term contract, he wanted the same rolling contract so he could get out of it quickly when someone offered him more money. Keep up Tom lad.
