He's only on 29 and will probably be out next ball but you can't bat like he is doing here and the play the shots he does and not be good enough for test cricket unless you and/or the coaches just kop out. Well, you can, but I find it infuriating how quickly people can just settle for being a one day specialist. The same goes for Morgan in my opinion. They are both so talented.

I couldn't disagree more. Its like playing two different sports. In test cricket they can just bowl 4th stump with a moving ball with 4 slips all day and his technique just gets exposed. He isn't very good against short aggressive stuff either. In one day games he can play with all the freedom he likes, the ball will be in his area more and he can just tee off knowing that any edges driving are far less likely to go to hand.

All replies have missed the point I'm making. He has bundles of talent and should be doing everything to work on his weaknesses and to improve. There's loads more room for freedom these days especially if he's down the order. Moeen is doing canny enough despite being poor against short stuff by the way.
