Greatest manager. Stood the test of time. Reinvented himself and the team multiple times. Got the best out of what he had in many seasons, blending some homegrown and arguably average (if they were at any other club) players. Never lost the respect of team/squad/fans. TBE.
No disrespect to SAF, but I do believe that he saw the future and that the wheels were about to come off, so he jumped ship.

Quite possibly, but his team that won the league his last season were pretty rubbish and wouldn't have won the league without him.
Surely if they had the Dream Team of Shteve and Moyes in place, it would've been a walk in the park, mate;)

As someone else pointed out. The team which won his last title was his worst. Pure determination from SAF.

I’ve just looked at the whole squad for the year he retired and if I’m not mistakes not a single player has gone on to win anything since then.

Might have won more European cups but for the rules in the 90s about not being able to field over a certain number of foreign players and core members of the team being Welsh, Scottish and Irish and classed as foreign. If I recall correctly they couldn't play all of Schmeichel, Irwin Giggs, Hughes, cantona, Keane and McClair together in the team for European Cup matches.

certainly left the club in an awful state given the players he had at his disposal for his time there.

That's true but it many ways it worked out well domestically. Due to those rules the infamous 'class of 92' were playing European football before they were first teamers. I'm sure the top level football they got in their early days played a massive part in their development and it was probably seeing how well they handled it that gave Fergie confidence to bring them in to the first team. As mentioned earlier, yes, it was amazing to have a crop like that come through together but a lot of it was down to the game time they got.

That was Fergies great strength though, he trusted youngsters and gave them opportunities early and sussed out if they had what it takes. If not they were shipped out. Players like Rashford now would either be a regular starter or shipped out. None of this will he/won't he make it, he sussed them out early and acted accordingly.

Left the cash for his replacement(s) to spend though instead of buying players they might not want. Not his fault they have largely pissed it against the wall.
