Who would you say is?

For me he is the greatest ever. What he did was pretty remarkable if you look back. He also nurtured one of the worlds best ever players.
As someone said earlier domestically he might be on the European stage he didn't. When you consider what Mourinho has done in his career in Europe, Ferguson's record isn't as good. It's difficult to say who is the best of all time. You have coaches like Helenio Herrera and Rinus Michels who changed the game. Bob Paisley won 20 trophies in 9 years. Trapattoni won leagues in 5 different countries and has won the European Cup, UEFA Cup, the Cup Winner's Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, the only manager to do so.

Clough was the best of his era.
Fergie was the best of his.

Clough wouldn't have coped as well with the modern day as fergie did. He got out at the right time, the fact he recommended David f***ing Moyes to be his replacement suggests his judgement was going.
moyes rebuilt teams over a 11 year period. don't let his time here could your judgement.

Who did Moyes manage before he took over Man Utd?
sorry, when i said teams i meant his teams at everton. in the same way that fergie had teams at united.

however, to answer your question, it was PNE, and if i recall correctly in a 3/4 year period he kept them up in league one and took them to the play off final of the championship.

The greatest manager ever or just bought the league every year?
Look at the difference between his last season and David Moyes, Van Gaal & Mourinho tenures and you have your answer. The squad wasn't great but he managed to romp the league playing a good brand of football.
