Greatest manager. Stood the test of time. Reinvented himself and the team multiple times. Got the best out of what he had in many seasons, blending some homegrown and arguably average (if they were at any other club) players. Never lost the respect of team/squad/fans. TBE.

This is the reason why I think Fergie is the best manager of all time. He built 3 different teams that dominated, managers usually get a bit in the lime light but rarely if ever do they repeatedly do it by reinventing one team.

Greatest manager ever IMO and his legacy will be just that, primarily because no other super club will keep a manager for a quarter as long. The fact he had roaring success over such a long time, significantly changing his squad yet still finding a winning formula was impressive. Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City all looked to snatch Uniteds dominance away from them yet he managed to prevent them all from doing so and rode the challenge in his tenure.

This.

Some managers get lucky being in the right place at the right time, or stumble across a winning formation and can’t repeat it. Ferguson built several championship winning teams over 20 odd years, I’d put him just ahead of Clough and Paisley as the best I’ve ever known.

Clough was the best of his era.
Fergie was the best of his.

Clough wouldn't have coped as well with the modern day as fergie did. He got out at the right time, the fact he recommended David f***ing Moyes to be his replacement suggests his judgement was going.

Comparing managers of different eras is a little like comparing players.....it can't really be done. Ferguson is without doubt the greatest manager of his era......how he'd have fared competing directly against Clough or Shankly or Paisley is only debate. One thing they all have in common though is that their best teams almost always comprised of home grown players,or relatively cheap additions, topped up by a few big buys to fill the gaps and complete the jigsaw. Wonder how Pep would compete against them?

He's looking better and better as each season passes

Might have been the reason he recommended Moyes?;)
