Alcohol

Cut down massively on midweek drinking, after a gout episode, and also being fucked over christmas, with a similar bug mention in the last few pages. Voice is still croaky.

However off out all day tomorrow through Seaham. No f***ing idea what it is like.

Nah I had a gig with the band. Herbs went. Haven't seen them in ages now! Did you go?
Aye. Was a canny night. Trying to remember if I remember someone bouncing around and knacking their leg :lol:
Debating about FT. Got tickets but health has been crap.
Yeah, standard pre-gig. @I’m Spartacus usually joins me in one.

Frank Turner and The Lottery Winners

Just me. Knacked my knee having a mosh with me son. It’s still bad 4 weeks later.
The same one you had bursitis earlier in the year?

I find it weird how the government have made heavy smoking financially prohibitive for the majority (&600 a month minimum assuming 2 packs per day per household, vunless you buy snides) but people are able to drink themselves into an early grave for similar money. Now that smoking is banned indoors it doesn’t cause any knock on issues such as violence and ASB like booze does. I love a drink more than most but I can see a greater good in cans of beer being 3-4 quid each so booze is limited to being a treat as opposed to a lifestyle choice. Obviously it will never happen as the government doing it would get the boot and its better for the countries coffers for people to drink loads and die young.

Had a pint of Stella last night and it tasted strong as fuck like.1st pint since NYE.I could have went on but decided to have a couple of glasses of Pop instead,as I’m feeling a million dollars atm not drinking.

I think the days of our fore-fathers when they went to Pallion Club et al every night for 10 pints were very different.
They had done a proper hard days graft.
They had eaten a regimented diet where the tea was more than likely a meat and 2 veg stodgy affair
The beer they drank was 3 % not the 5% we have now - a big difference where heavy volume is concerned.

Tbf mate, the most popular selling pints in pubs aren’t a whole lot stronger even today.

Carling, Fosters, Coors, Guinness and John Smiths, probably average out around 3.8% abv a pint.

Of course you can get the more premium stuff, but even then, the volume over the years has been reduced for tax purposes.

The best example is probably Stella that used to be 5.2%. I have a feeling it’s now 4.5% and given there is a tolerance in brewing, it’s probably regularly under that. Bud used to be 5% on draft, but I’m pretty sure it’s now 4.1%

3.8% beer contains 27% more alcohol than 3% beer per unit volume.

4.1% => 37% more alcohol than 3%

4.5% => 50% more.

Those are huge increases from the olden days, even if they aren't as huge as they were a few years ago.

Fancied a few so had five beers last night, ranging from 6.8% - 9%. Feel a million dollars today.
