Statistically he may well do, but I don't think he'll ever be considered as the greatest batsman England has ever produced.
 
Nee expert mind but would it by fair to say he is playing against weaker attacks then some of the contenders of years gone by, seems to be a few sides that you can boost the average up with nowadays

He started his career when there were some good bowling attacks around and done quite well but granted his runs against Australia in the winter and Sri Lanka this summer have come against very average attacks. Having said that, you can only play what's in front of you. If he ends his career with 35 hundreds and 10000 runs then he will have to go down as our greatest batsman. Classiest? Most attractive? Most entertaining? Definitely not. His current batting partner could be up there though (cue argument whether he should be classed as English)
