Everybody just used to sit on the bank of the A19 right opposite the runway. Best views anyway.Think you had to pay to get a closer view.Think they hadn't quite thought the concept through.
I can remember them putting the planes in the Galleries car park next to where In Shops is now. You could sit in some of them and once they had a passenger plane with the emergency chute out to slide down. It was mint

I do remember a squadron of something big going over our house on the way to the airshow. Vulcans rings a bell but that will only be what I was told. I was too young to remember at the time.
