Airbnb your own place

I work remotely, so I am beyond flexible, so somewhere where demand might be

I was originally thinking Edinburgh, but they have just introduced new legislation so might not be worth it, Tynemouth and Margate, opposite ends of the coast, are in my initial views. I like both places to live, but I think I could have a lot of demand when I am away.

But as I say anywhere really, I have no ties.

Had a lot of stuff being pinged over about new builds in Salford recently.

Might be worth looking at. Not Airbnb worthy but buy to let:

be careful with edinburgh got a really bad reputation with the locals, parties etc.

also keep it to airbnb , don't put it on other sites as these are visited by people banned from airbnb:D

 aye good point

Aye its a slight risk whenever you do it for sure, why I posted slightly to see if people gone OK with it.

I lived in Edinnurgh 6 months in an Airbnb during the 1st lockdown! So I have experienced both sides of that, I can see it from the locals view point absolutely.

Eh?

Not at all, it will be my home

How will I be avoiding taxes?

Then dont post on the thread then.
Good advice that. If you see a thread topic you have an opinion on don't post on the thread*

*Unless you can guarantee to tell the OP exactly what they want to hear

I think going a thread you have no interest in just to slag it off is pretty pointless waste of your own time like

each to their own though, if thats how you spend your evenings, good luck to you marra.

Gave his opinion on the company and their customer service while keeping the post succinct enough for all to understand. Top posting style and a template for all

Anyone do this? maybe not with their family home but with another property?

I am thinking about buying a flat anyway, but I am gonna be abroad a lot for work next few years (covid permitting)

Was debating combining the 2 and maybe make some cash while I am away

Would need to buy in an area attractive to visitors obviously. Stayed in a lot of them over the years, so I reckon I could do it up that would make it attractive.
I did it for a few years and absolutely loved it. I had a spare room so people would stay at mine. Made some amazing friends from all over the world and met some really interesting people.

It was far better when it first started operating in the UK. Now all the bastard letting agencies and normal B&B businesses spam the service. When I started there were two properties north of the Wear in Sunderland and mine was one of them.

You can make really good money from it. Or at least you could when I done it. If you have any questions fire me a pm mate, I'd be happy to help you out.

Where you think I’m gonna be living? On the streets?

you must have a lot more money than me mate judging by your assumptions

fantastic mate, cheers for that. Yeah that makes sense, corporate always moves in at any profit

yeah I will send you a PM absolutely cheers I’ll form a basic plan first

some people making the wrong assumption judging by some of the replies, I kind of just want someone to cover the mortgage when I’m away and if there is a bit of beer money on top then it’s a bonus

Yeah, I've been doing mine for the past 3 years after I moved in with the missus. Been going really well, nice cottage in Yorkshire, near Thirsk. Get a lot of walkers, cyclists, families n stuff. Haven't had many arseholes at all really, maybe I'm one of the luckier ones!

Have considered it during the summer while we are away on holiday as we generally go for a month. It would almost pay for the holiday itself.

Not quite got as far as doing it yet, but maybe next year.

You basically make your calendar available on the dates you're willing to let out. You can have it set that they can instantly book, or have to send you an enquiry first.

You can set your own pricing obviously, offer discounts for longer stays and use smart pricing which changes your price to suit demand, although I always set it myself.
