Look, there’s often some shit spouted on here by other fans especially in the world of the deluded Geordie nation, in the 70’s I was regularly travelling along with others to away games and although the memory fades from time to time I’ve never seen Sunderland shown up anywhere, a good if not great account was always given by some very handy game lads comrades in arms would describe it well. A number of clubs just like now would look to scalp us but few ever did in my era.

I never saw nowt mate.

Got to Shrews at 1.20 pm- plenty of OB about in Town outside the pubs.

Went in Spoons and it emptied after we got in.

OB had all gone up the ground seemingly when we left at 2.30.

Walked back after the game to the Station, saw no one.

How long did that take mate walking from ground to station?

Nowt like 150
I was at the game in the clockstand paddock
They got pelted with coins when they passed
Probably around 50 - 70
I was in the fullwell, fairly central, they were no more than 10 yards from where I was. Had no clue till we heard “United” shouted a couple of times. Remember just being confused then a gap opened up alongside us and there were I’d say maybe 50 max, mags. Afew skirmishes and a few slapped about but they were quickly bundled down towards the pitch and onto the track. Main man was a well known Washington fella I believe.

JK ?

A group that size could have potentially chased Sunderland fans out of their own end.
Iirc the crowd was very low that year for a derby game

Only about 28,000 there and they had about 8,000.

11-30 am kick off on a Easter Monday.

The whole thing was weird. Was near the front heard a roar and they filed out from the right and onto the pitch.

All a bit surreal as nobody knew what was going on until they actually got onto the cinder track.

Don't think a punch was thrown from either side.

80-100 there.

Clockstand lobbed coins through the fence at them walking past.

All a bit of a non event really.

Game was appalling 0-0 no shots from either side from memory.

Back at school in Birtley after the Easter Holidays and about 20 Maggots in my year reckoned they were in there..

Is he still with us?
Last time I saw him was outside the cross keys arguing with a lad then they went into the car park, the cap never came off.

The number of mags I’ve spoken to over the years who reckon they were at the Gillingham game..fkn gobshites man.

I’ve seen him walking his dog odd times when I’m down there. Be a canny age now.
Indeed at least 70, don’t make them like him anymore, he’d laugh at today’s boyo’s.

30,000 of them in a 29,000 gate i believe!

I’ve said before, I was in the Fulwell for that game and had no idea there were any mags in the ground and neither did anyone around me.

5,000 in the New Derby before the game, record takings all drinking lemonade though with straws in, bless em!

I was in the Fulwell anarl..right behind the goal..there was mags in the Clockstand paddock..round about 80-100 of them..about level with the 18 yard line towards the Roker end..they kept them in at the final whistle.

I was in the main stand Roker wing and saw one take three or four jumpers off to reveal his skunk shirt

i was in the mainstand paddocks when the mags got escorted round the pitch. i'd have said there was perhaps more than 50 but no more than 100.
i also thought it was common knowledge they'd be in there. i'm certainly not interested in shenannigans or anything like that but all of us knew they'd be there and when and how they'd make themselves known.
