Up till about 1972 when segregation came in it was routine for away fans to come into the Fulwell. They would usually just gather to the right hand side of the cage. Our fans will have done the same at other grounds. When Boro came in in their hundreds once the coppers just formed a line down one aisle to keep the fans apart but there was rocks and stuff flying between them. Same with the mags. Leeds brought loads in and I don’t recall seeing trouble though I was just a kid and we stood down the front.
I do know we used to stand alongside Newcastle supporters at St James. Used to drink with them in the Strawberry before a match as well. I am 72 mind.

Well I am willing to bow to your superior knowledge. I however visited Roker many times prior to 72 and never noticed it.
Cannot see how you missed it. Just about every match the main body of away fans went in the Fulwell. By about ‘72 hooliganism had took hold and it was kicking off regular and the coppers started putting away fans in the Roker.

Yes but this still happened after skinheads and all that came in in the late 60s People used to talk about ‘taking’ the home end on away trips. It’s surprising it didn’t kick off more than it did.

Was in the Fulwell '85 Mags game. Fair play they brought a decent amount in, but as already said, they got out pretty quick. Again, very little happened. It was mostly families near by from what I remember. The fences were up on the clock stand , so coins got thrown and no one got in or out of the paddocks. I thought around 100 -150 Mags to be honest.

Only about 28,000 there and they had about 8,000.

11-30 am kick off on a Easter Monday.

The whole thing was weird. Was near the front heard a roar and they filed out from the right and onto the pitch.

All a bit surreal as nobody knew what was going on until they actually got onto the cinder track.

Don't think a punch was thrown from either side.

80-100 there.

Clockstand lobbed coins through the fence at them walking past.

All a bit of a non event really.

Game was appalling 0-0 no shots from either side from memory.

Back at school in Birtley after the Easter Holidays and about 20 Maggots in my year reckoned they were in there..

I may know you as that last line is also my recollection of Monday morning at Lord Lawson. I was in the Roker End. I do know of one who definitely was amongst those in the Fullwell. Most of the others claiming to be associated i would serious doubt were even at the game.
Fred Perry and brouges

Fred Perry and brogues the usual attire

My usual attire is whatever is on the top of the ironing pile at the time. No brogues at game mate. I may be 50 however proper shoes are for graft. Trainers are for leisure time.
I was in Shrewsbury on Fri and Saturday with a Harley bike club meet. On Fri night we were in the town centre when 5 lads one had the Zebra stripes on the other had Grey matching polo shirts with the scum badge on, I would say they were no more than 19-20 yr old and mouthy
One of our guys from Durham said F off or we would have a word with them, they ran like Feck out of the way.
On Saturday me and the same lad saw them next to the Lord Hill monument we were staying in the Lord Hill Hotel next to it.
They started chucking rocks at 4 SAFC lads who were lost I called the SAFC lads over, but the police arrived 1st , they had been called by a local, 3 of the mags got lifted the other 2 ran off into the park. the lads who were lost met up with the rest of their pals they were from Peterlee.
All ended fine and none of our lot got in any more bother.
I did not see any frisk at the ground before or after the game.

What a thing to do ffs. Hopefully at some point over the weekend they got a good hiding. If they are Newcastle fans and like a fight why go to Shrewsbury when i am sure they would easily have found some likeminded Wolves fans over the weekend.
The lads you describe are my youngest sons age. If i thought for a second he was involved in that kind of shit he would be in serious bother from me. Followed, no doubt, from his older brother. Moronic kids educated, i assume, from YouTube videos and daft books of how football used to be. Just a shame the police arrived before their behaviour could be 'corrected'.

, you sure? A couple of hundred max

Aye they were in the corner near the Roker End. Seemed a few at the time.

I got the train through from Newcastle to Seaburn and it was rammed with them.

The number of mags I’ve spoken to over the years who reckon they were at the Gillingham game..fkn gobshites man.
I travelled up from London for the Gillingham game and on the train from newcastle there were mags and a couple of Leeds supporters. The mags got quieter the closer they got to Sunderland, the Leeds supporters were mouthy all the way. Nowt happened.

Always good to look out for our young’uns Bob!

Didn’t they go to the ivy house before a derby game and smash all the optics, once again a police escort to the ground when they had the chance to go into the town centre and cause havoc.

Yes. They went to all the trouble of sneaking through undetected then, when in Sunderland (in a bar with one person in), smashed stuff so the Coppers would be called.
Very odd.

Exactly when push came to shove they just didn’t have the bottle and were relieved to get out, all preplanned, forward decades later last year on the metro against Shrewsbury and nothing’s changed, shit scared soft bastards.

1970 was different - warfare in the fulwell apparently

I haven't read any posts after this, so apologies if Seb.
That said, and I doubt this will be liked.
They came to Sunderland at that time70s and 80s and wandered round the ground owning the place.
My cousin was a Mag and in 79, in the League Cup, at Roker, 2-2, before the replay when Jim Pearson missed the penalty in front of the Gallowgate ( I was there), there was maybe 50 outside the player's entrance at RP.
I remember my dad saying there's your cousin Steven, honestly, I was 16, he was 20 and less than 5 foot.
Yet there they were outside the players ent
Well i beg to differ mate
