There was a time when Mackemdom jusdged itself not by the faule baubles of Sly Sport and having Neville and Redknapp leer over her drawers.

She judged herself by the pursuit of glory for mackem sake.

When you are dying in your bed many years from now, would you swap all the years of premier league mediocrity for just one chance to see the lads lift a national trophy at the home of football?

slightly mental this persona mind...

I think we have much more chance of staying up than winning the cup anyway.

im also sck of hearing about 73. I wasnt even born. Its a nice little statistic, but i dont have the emmotional connection to it.

about as accurate as the film its ripped from

So would you rather us stay up by the skin of our teeth again this year, than see us lift a cup at wembley with your own eyes?

edit: who says we can't do both anyway

i think we will stay up

i dont think we will win the cup

if i have to choose one or the other, i choose survival

id prefer to do both, and chuck in a fa cup final for good measure.

Nobody will be talking about Sunderland in 40 years full stop if we go down. Go bust. End up in league 2.

It's actually an alarming lack of ambition swapping the prem for the league cup.

Cashing ya chips in.

The cup should be looked upon as a bonus. Not the priority.

We get 30,000 to 40,000 every week! :)

There is absolutely nee way we'd gan bust man.

So this amazing journey of winning the cup and staying with us forever, plus the silverware in the cabinet

Yet hardly any fucker turns up for the cup games ?

Its easy saying you would rather win the cup and go down but im glad its the minority

Staying in the prem is everything for the club and the future

Fair enough if anyone thinks staying up is their priority but if you can't understand why fans would rather actually win a trophy than stay up then you're being stupid. It should be very easy to see why.

Exactly - winning a cup at wembley would be fantastic but if we go down too then we have shown great strength and ability to bounce virtually straight back and have very enjoyable seasons in the Championship. No reason why we cant do this again if we do go down
