Man City and Chelsea have too much oil money to ever compete with them. Man Utd and Liverpool's brands are too strong, they would buy good player from an up and coming side. Even f***ing Spurs are in a different league financially.
Things change. Nothing stays the same. But surviving is better than yoyo'ing.

"Staying in the Premier League is much more important," said the erstwhile England winger. "It's about being a Premier League footballer"

Selfish in the extreme.
While your very true, lets hope he starts playing like one, and help us stay up.

Adam Johnson: I can't really understand why some fans would rather win a cup than stay up.

He has a point like

Well he needs to learn to play well in the league to keep us up

Winning a cup would only be great if it was done as well as staying up. The memories of 73 will rightfully never go away but looking at the recent cup wins by Wigan and Birmingham it seems far less glamorous. Would be short lived happiness. Trying to play Europe games on top of more league games in the championship as well as earlier cup rounds is a recipe for disaster and the chances are you won't come back up again.

Go to Wembley, see the club actually win something, go down and have some great away days and have a go winning the championship....

Or...

Last season & this season on repeat for another few years...

Ask Pompey fans if it was worth it. Most, not all, but the vast majority say no.

You win a Cup, your name is on it - it's there forever, we are better and bigger than Wigan and Birmingham, therefore it will be very glamorous. As for European football, that will be just for fun....

You only start in round two if you finish bottom. Even then playing in Europe knocks you into a round three start - see Birmingham and the fact that AFC Wimbledon and Crawley had a preliminary round game on account of that very fact.

I personally couldn't give a fuck about the Premiership, I'd rather a cup win. Football is all about winners and we ain't going to be winning anything other than a cup for a long while. 10 years since our last crack at a semi-final and the chance to play at Wembley in a major final and possibly play in Europe, and some people would rather we play Crystal Palace and Hull a couple of times a season? Now that I don't understand.

The lad is getting slagged off for saying he's desperate for us to stay up........you couldn't make it, this place is a f***ing loony bin.

If he'd said "I don't care if we go down so long as we win the cup" people would have complained his heart wasn't in it and he just wants a medal.

Just goes to prove my point that some people just don't like him and will complain no matter what. Turned the game last night when we were on the brink of being overwhelmed by them.

We have consistently proven that we can bounce back from relegation. We havent finished lower than 3rd in the Championship for 20 years!

Winning trophies has proven much more elusive. If I could guarantee staying up or winning the cup this year I would choose the cup.

I'd have thought you'd seen Rangers win enough second rate trophies to have had your fill?

Professional footballer wanting to be at the top of his sport.....imagine that. You're as daft as they come.

Boring!

Professional footballer wanting to be at the top and then questions why THE FANS would rather have silverware?

Unless the club is bought by one of those mega rich Arabs with more money than sense, nothing will change. We are here to make up the numbers. The sponsorship deals the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal get worth hundreds of millions from the likes of Chevrolet and Nike mean we have no chance of even qualifying for the Champions League, never mind the title. The best we can ever achieve unless there is some sort of salary cap brought in is the glass ceiling of scrapping a top half finish.
