Adam Johnson - surely not?

I agree with all of that, I've just got to the stage where nothing surprises me any more. It would be a kick in the knackers if he went out on loan, as for a permanent, I would wait and see what the deal was. I think we are now working on a Swansea/Southampton model to a coin a phrase

I don't know what Johnson is on and wouldn't hazard a guess, but we all want value for money. Like I say hoying decent wages doesn't mean we can get quality players as per your point about Gardner and Bardsley. I also would suggest that there are teams who finished above us with a lower wage bill, again though that would be guessing.
Southampton spent nearly £40m last season, i doubt we are going with that model like.

It's what we do so it wouldn't surprise me. Sell our best players to buy journeymen. If its true then we know nothing has changed.

best players ? we really must be in the shit if he's one of our best players.
Can count on the fingers of one hand how many good games he had - anonymous in lots - what were his stats ref assists etc - not great I bet.

Get out of bed earlier and read some of the other threads man

The Mirror, f***ing hell, we had them shitting all over us last season, now it continues pre-season, you would think they had an agenda
There is no agenda, hope we don't sell, on his day he's a cracking player, just think he's in the wrong environment, too easy for him here.

There is enough rumours to suggest we are looking to sell like

Dissapointing if true

Frustrating player. Got it in his locker but doesnt produce nearly often enough. Wouldnt surprise me if Poyet feels a change is needed there.

Gotta keep AJ if we want to progress imo, I know he is frustrating and erratic but it's the signal it sends out to fans and other players we have or want to attract, small minded if we want rid for less than we paid and ridiculous if we let him go on loan.

No agenda, did you read some of the shite coming out of that bogroll last season? And Poyet was leaving for every other club in the league after the season finished

It's the same for every club, it's total paranoia to believe otherwise. In the grand scheme of the Premier League we are a nothing club, who'd want an agenda & why?

This is actually in the Sunday People today but follows a similar one I highlighted on PF about 3 weeks back.
Today's offering says Everton are interested in a season-long loan of Johnson - but not in buying him.
It adds that Sunderland have "found no takers since informing middlemen that they were prepared to listen to offers".
As I said last time, no way I'd do this unless a VERY good replacement was in the bag. Seems the reason (if true) is simple wage-bill reduction.
I'd happily sell him but loaning him out seems completely bizarre.

Worrying indication about our finances and cost cutting if true.

If this happens then there's obviously a continuing fatwa on any salaries agreed pre-Paolo. So presumably Fletch is also a problem and might present a problem extending Cattermole ( which needs doing this summer). O'Shea and Brown will be replaced with cheaper lads..
