ACJ Disruption Grade 3

Anyone had a similar injury? If so what treatment were you offered/have, and how long was the recovery process?

Did mine 3 weeks ago and am due to have it assessed tomorrow where believe they will make a decision as to whether surgery or physiotherapy is the best course of action. Any suggestions as to what questions I should be asking?
Finally how long was it before you were able to sleep laying down? At moment the closest I can get to comfortable (i.e. not very close at all) is sitting bolt upright which makes sleeping difficult.

Are you on about your AC joint in your shoulder?

If so I did mine years ago, bloody painful the knars

On the plus side I did have a couple of weeks off work

Had a ac grade 3, all ligaments severed. Opted to avoid an operation and rehab back to fitness. It worked well for me be can't stress enough you must be rigorous with your rehab don't skip it.
Started off slowly and progressed to using therabands etc. I was off work 4 month but that's because I do a lot of overhead heavy lifting. At first I thought I would never get back to fitness but I managed it and I'm more or less fine now. As I said stick to the physio programme.

Yes snapped both ligaments where the collarbone attaches to the shoulder blade.

ACJ dislocations

They gave you the choice of surgery or physio? Was there a particular reason for avoiding surgery in your case as I would have thought a surgical repair would have got you back in action quicker?
Glad to hear you're recovered now.

I've done mine twice through footy. First time must have only been a grade 2 as I felt no noticeable pain but only realised when I looked in the mirror and saw the bump. I did it again several years later, fell right on it and ended up in A&E. Grade 3. Decided not to have the surgery and live with the increased bump. That was around 3 years ago but bizarrely the bump has gone back to normal(ish) - whether it was only grade 2 again and it somehow righted itself I've no idea. Still think there is a gap between the bones it's just that the collar bone is not sticking up like it was. Pain was pretty bad that second time mind!

They looked at x Ray and sent a letter saying surgery would be considered. After I came out of sling, around 2 weeks, I went to see him.

He asked me to do some arm movements which were painful. He said I could go with physio and see how it went if I wanted so I did.

Initially I had very little movement, couldn't raise my arm etc.

But I stuck with it and it worked out well. Surgery was a last option for me. There's risk of infection etc as they drill through the bone I think and either strap it or pin it together.
I think the recovery time may be longer and more painful. Personally I'd rehab it better.

Thanks, much appreciated.
When I went to the urgent care centre the nurse practitioner told me it was just soft tissue damage, I knew he was wrong because you could clearly see the end of the collarbone sticking up where it had no business being. Helpfully the radiologist who took the x-rays told me exactly what was wrong. I told the nurse and he had to go and check with the consultant before he accepted it was more than soft tissue damage. Doesn't give me confidence in their decision making so it's good to have details of other peoples experience to help me make a decision.

Woke up with a bruise on the inside of my upper left arm

Doesn’t hurt like

Arm aids I'm guessing. RIP mate.
Appreciate you not wasting the NHS' time buying turning up to A&E with an obviously untreatable disease, very public spirited of you in the circumstances. Have a like.

I’m sitting in a private waiting room, having a foot massage and reading the Telegraph

Isn’t that what everyone does these days?

that's exactly how it was for me during my 4 hour wait to be seen in Sunderland Royal. The complimentary Mojitos were excellent.
