A Year Ago Tonight...

That game was the absolute epitome of what it is to follow England over the last 40 years. Look bright and lively, definitely in the game, full of optimism. Then we inevitably start to lose our grip against a more savvy side who gradually edge their way into the game and slowly wrestle it away from us with the help of the obligatory borderline call going against us.

Have we ever won a game at a major tournament when we haven't been favourites?

What I remember most from the game was the number of fouls the French committed, free kicks given but no bookings. It was obvious a tactic to break the game up, spoil it in other words but the ref allowed it.
