A stupid gamble on evil machines....

No mate, I see people from all ages on them, taxi drivers especially. I work next door to Betfred and see the same faces every day on the machines.

Luckily, there's a lad who works there actually encourages them not to play on them.

The Government clearly needs to do something because you can guarantee for everyone on here who's been honest about their issues they'll be boatloads more who are in deeper trouble.

I know a lad who worked in a betting shop and he said the machines can only pay out however much is in them.

Seen countless fresh 18 year olds spinning hundreds, car insurance money, birthday money, savings.. it's shocking

That's bollocks mate, they are linked into a central server, hense the printed ticket.

Without a shadow of doubt mate, sometimes you just can't educate idiots. It's the lure of putting in a tenner and getting £500 back, I do it now and again, but I'm not stupid.

I really don't think that most people know the machines are all linked and it doesn't really matter if you put in £2000 into a machine and walk away, there are people who jump onto the machine as soon as the lads gone, fights and everything.

Said this earlier - very different to fruits in the pubs where if you go on after some ones spent a load you should do OK. All linked in the bookies and linked nationally not locally!

I have an addictive, compulsive personality so had to stop matched betting, as I was just using the winnings to place normal bets. It's so difficult to stay disciplined for me, so I knocked it on the head.

This is correct. Most fruit machines in pubs have in addition to the random number generator algorithm a 'corrective' algorithm that will ensure the machine meets its RTP (return to player %) so there are times when it is better to play them (I.e. When they're full of cash). FOBts don't work like this they're linked to a central off site server which makes them more volatile. Which can be enjoyable (risk v reward) but ultimate more dangerous too..

Surely in the case of roulette it is fixed odds? The payouts percentage will be high, but just like a casino table, the odds are stacked in favour of the bookie/ casino.the house will always win in the end based on probability.
It's worse than that. The little white ball has no concept of averages or doesn't understand what happened previously, it just spins and then stops. The machines know if it's paid out big lately so it won't pay out again or it knows how much to pay out to match the percentage

You don't even have to go out of the house to lose loads of money.
Not sure what difference taking them out of shops will make.
Any of my online accounts have limits of £25 a week set on them

Off on a slight tangent but Joey Barton was correct for once when said the FA doesn't like players betting etc but the football industry as a whole will jump it bed and whore itself out with a number of 'official betting partners'

They don't like players betting because they may be tempted to influence the result. joey barton once again wrong.

He was betting against his now team man. The guys a moron. And he's never right.
this.

£25 a week is £100 a month, times that by a good number of accounts it soon adds up.

Nowt wrong with that, it's when you're wasting your own money then chasing it, then it becomes a problem.
I don't have bets at all at the moment other than £10 a week taking turns at work, £5 on the Irish lotto and a £5 accumulator.

Bloody Arsenal!

whej opening the account you can select as low as £5 a week limit

Still £5 a week on multiple accounts, it's not about limiting, it's about discipline.
There will be times you've gone to your limit then just logged into another account to stick a bet on.

Well unless you are disciplined then you will never have. ;)

"Gambling regulation should be not be designed to protect the gambling sector operators, the politicians that approved it, or the regulators that should enforce it. It should be designed and interpreted to protect the consumers – the gamblers. The UK 2005 Gambling Act has many flaws but the most significant flaws relate to FOBTs.

“FOBTs” (fixed odds betting terminals), also known as B2 machines – the gaming machines you find offering roulette in high street betting shops – were introduced when the betting shop sector was unregulated and have since multiplied to now be dubbed the “crack cocaine of gambling”.

We want them stopped."

Football is so unpredictable it's not worth even a treble. Look at Chelsea first week of the season f***ing up everyone's accy's

Accumulators are totally worth it if a) you know what you're doing and b) combine it with a bookie that does acca insurance.

Depends if the intention is entertainment or to win money. Ideally I'd like to win money but the lads' accumulators are just a bit of fun at the weekend.
At the risk of sounding like @Frijj we have a spreadsheet showing winnings and we've been marginally up each year, a few hundred up a couple of times. All goes in the kitty for a weekend away. Not done great this year (this week was first win since April) but have £520 between three of us so pays for digs and probably first day's drink.

I find it entertaining winning money if that helps

I just knocked it on the head as it always gets out of hand due to my addiction. I've come to accept that.

Personally I haven't. We would stick to one company until they pissed us off. Bet victor was good but they took forever to pay our winnings (sometimes up to a week) so we moved to 888sport. We left 888 after about a month because we never won anything (I know it makes no difference)
It was all just a bit of fun for accys while watching Soccer Saturday.

When I was younger I would plow money into fruitys, putting like £25 in £5 jackpots. So pleased I had grown up before these machines come out
