A steady debut

Henderson started slowly, looking lost, but as the game progressed he grew into it and overall can feel pleased with his efforts.

I'd like to see his pass completion stats around 90% Id say?

6 out of 10 for me, well done Jordan

Agree a very difficult game to make a debut in but the lad done ok tidy on the ball didnt give it away much a 6/10 about right

Didn't too bad, kept the ball a lot better in the 2nd half when Gerrard dropped deeper but I think he'll be made a scapegoat more so than Barry who was shitter but more experienced.

He did well for his debut, initially playing a very unfamiliar role.

When Crouch came on & Gerrard went off & England went 4 4 2, he was able to pick out some excellent passes & was a lot more involved, playing more in the role he plays for us.

Can't argue with this, Spot on.

Hopefully, he'll be given leeway from the more sensible journos for his inexperience.

Ah, probably expecting too much if the Telegraph and Mail reports are the norm.

Kevin McCarra at Wembley

There were more noteworthy changes, such as Jordan Henderson making his debut, but it was the Sunderland player's ill-fortune in the first half to discover that he could not be a deep-lying playmaker when France's control made him defend. Worse still, the opposition concentrated initially on his area of the field and employed that channel to score.

Another twat!

In truth, the lad hasn't been on top form for us lately, so people need to respect the fact he's young and still learning.

One goal came from the left and the second came from the right. So France concentrated on his position did they? What fucks me off about the whole wanking press is that we have a young kid trying to make his way in football and they manage to f***ing slaughter him first time around. But still they wax lyrical about Carroll, who put himself about a bit, lost quite a few battles in the air, but showed glimpses of being a "typical English Centre forward". When we do play with a "typical English forward", the press tell us how far we are behind the rest of the other top nations.
The press are a bunch of hypocritical wankers who will complain in a few years that England have "no talented, just hard working players"

I was a bit annoyed with Crapello to be honest.

20 year old kid making his debut and he didn't seem to get much support from his more experienced colleagues. Also played a different role to what he plays at SAFC.

We should have picked a young squad for the World Cup, silmilar to how Germany did it. The ***** in England don't realise that every young player will adapt to international footy straight away and it's evident that the current system and the 'star' players are holding back progress.

I'd perhaps keep playing an experience centre back and central midfield but then keep the rest of the positions for younger players.

JORDAN HENDERSON

Too much, too soon for Sunderland's talented midfielder. A chastening experience that saw him get the complete runaround from Florent Malouda, Sami Nasri and Yoann Gourcuff, who called all the shots with their superb movement and understanding.

Entrusted with a holding role next to Gareth Barry, he must have felt dizzy as Les Bleus started weaving patterns like he wasn't there.

The 20 year-old said he wouldn’t be intimidated by the step up, but this must have felt like a different ball game altogether as France found enticing pockets of space behind him and the labouring Barry.

It didn’t get much easier when Steven Gerrard dropped back alongside for the second half. In trying to stop the elusive Gourcuff, Henderson dived in on the stretch. Although he pulled out of the tackle at the last moment, it was enough to earn the lad a yellow card.

Funny to think that only a few days before Henderson had been highly impressive against Malouda’s Chelsea in a handsome Sunderland win. As much as he enjoyed that, this must have felt like a nightmare; enough to give anyone doubts about their ability.

As debuts go, it certainly could have been better. But as young English prospects go, Henderson remains one of the best.

It's all I hate about the English (sports) media.

They've mentioned that Barry was 'labouring', that must be posh for 'shite'.

Has Henderson ever been a 'holding' midfielder? From what I've seen at SAFC he's either putting through probing balls or has been played out wide.

No mention of how he improved in the 2nd half?

Head in the sand. Very very poor, and that's being kind. The only mitigating factor was the quality of the opposition.

The good news is that every Premiership manager will have seen that so he will be staying

I made the exact same comment in the first half, not just regards to Henderson but on the team as whole. The experienced players didn't step up when needed, although lets face it thats expected they never do against half decent opposition .

Not really. Did Capello pick him thinking he was getting Cattermole? I actually think that Capello decided on a new system then tried to wedge players into it. If Henderson played any role in that system, it had to be somewhere in behind the front man.

If he was very, very poor why would you be happy that no one will take him?

I'd say that my assessment was much fairer than yours.

But then I would.

Typical media shite, used to it by now though

The guy was pretty fair I thought, rational assessment with a kind ending.
