LAST SEASON
Stoke (h) draw
Spurs (a) defeat
Chelsea (a) defeat
Everton (h) draw

This Season
Stoke (h) win
Spurs (a) draw
Chelsea (a) WIN
Everton (h) draw

Last season we got 2 points from these 4 games this season we got 8. After the scum game we would all have taken 6 points from these 4 and we got 8.

We've had a good run. Im sure there will be times in the season when you can pick a few fixtures and say look...were going backwards. Point is we are definitely improving.

The interesting thing for me was Catts sending offs - at least 4 points lost I reckon - but - hes come back the better player so its maybe 4 points well spent in the long run - he was top drawer last night. Hes carrying Henderson to some degree in the last few games but they are only 20 and 22 - will be great to see them develop over the next few years.

however you look at it, and however shit we were against the mags, that game has certainly give us a massive lift, and enabled us to push on and show how good we really are/can be when it comes to picking up points when it really matters.

the chelsea win is on par, if not better than a win vs mags, and shows how far we have some as, if the 5-1 defeat had taken place last season (apart from it being a miracle as the mags were in Championship) we would've went to WHL and Stamford Bridge and left with (at the most), possibly one, or two points.

In fact, I would go as far as to say, the mags did us a favour that day.

.

Not going to win many friends with that statement, however i also believe that to be the truth

A Sunderland team of the past would have lost last night, especially after such a great result against Chelsea. We also played much better this season (imo) against Everton than last.

We seem to have some sort of threat for periods in most games now and i'm starting to think we are likely to score at some point in a game.

Apart from the Newcastle game i'm loving the fact we don't look out of place in this division anymore.

truth hurts, but it is beginning to look like it is the truth. Hopefully at the end of the season when that result is all they have to throw at us we can just smile and say "thanks"

I had a conversation with a black and white mate last night, basically saying we'd kicked on since that game, and they'd gone backwards.

I know that we have improved as a Club when I see threads complaining about Malbranque's contribution this season and talkng aboutleaving Bent out on the bench as an impact sub .......

Our serial whingers have a much better class of player to complain about these days and long may it continue :)
