The French National Lottery was founded to help these lads in the 1930's, I believe they are still shareholders, known as Les Gueules Cassees. Shocking what they had to suffer at the time.Ending the taboo of soldiers with 'broken faces'

There was a very decent documentary about a surgeon who helped airmen in WW2.Very worthwhile memorial.
I remember seeing a film a while back about disfigured french soldiers all living together in hospital. Very impacting and psychological but can I hell as remember what it was called.
Oh and wad by the way.
Yes I think I saw that. My aunty worked in the operating theatre in East Grinstead in the 50'sThere was a very decent documentary about a surgeon who helped airmen in WW2.
Weapons were built with the sole intention of tearing people apart I'm sorry to say they still are, there is still much work to do. My great grandfather fought in WWII he has a grave in Sunderland on the main road and I have another relative who fought and his name it etched into the memorial in Easington Lane. Also seeing what was called shell shock some of look physically intact but were mentally scared for life.. It's now called post traumatic and sufferers can get help... In 1918 they were left to get on with it... Today I wear my poppy with pride and thanks to the men who gave so much for us all...
We are lucky to be born in a time without any major conflicts that cost millions of lives... Your grandad was a hero who gave the ultimate for his country..Weapons were built with the sole intention of tearing people apart I'm sorry to say they still are, there is still much work to do. I'm just glad he got to shag my nanna, without him and her I wouldn't be here today. We are lucky to be born in a time without any major conflicts that cost millions of lives... Your grandad was a hero who gave the ultimate for his country..

I'm currently listening to Dan Carlings Hard Core History; Blueprint for ArmegedonPat Barker's Regeneration trilogy is a fascinating and harrowing insight into WW1. I keep meaning to re-read it.
