A Holding Midfielder

We can't just keep on going out and getting players just in case. Evans has missed a number of games recently and we've done well. This new lad from West Ham doesn't have the experience, but that doesn't mean he can't play a role in the first team...that's what he's left West Ham for!

Evans being out for the season has obviously shook us, but we've no idea if it's actually weakened us that much, if at all. Alese was getting flack the first time he played and since then, he's been superb, who's to say this lad can't be decent in CM? Neil, has adapted really well to the Evans role and there's a number of options taht can be played next to him now.

If we go out and get an experienced baller in the middle of the park, then I'd say that the search for 2 strikers coming in will probably get cut to one.
I am banking on Ekwah being the one to play alongside Neil

Ba, Neil, Michut and Ekwah... I think we are alright in cm tbh. With the new French winger in the wings (see what I did there) I reckon we will see one striker in on loan and another signed perm. Talk has gone quiet on the CB front lately. Positive is I can’t see Stewart leaving this window at all.

I'm sure he'll be given a go. Just hope he doesn't get wrote off after 1 game by the muppets on here!...Saying that. they usually have to back track after a player is given a few more games.

That last bit is quite possible. Or the club might have lined up someone for the summer to replace Evans then. They club may well decide to bring that potential move forward 6 months.

The gaffer has mentioned about the lack of experience in there at todays press conference so I’m expecting someone in now

Hes not the gaffer tho, he's a head coach and he'll have to work with what he's given.

Evans injury is a blow, but the board may see that as a pathway opening up for one of the younger lads we've already got. I'm sure they weren't in the market for another CM before Evans' injury diagnosis after bringing in that lad from West Ham. You can only pick 2 of the 4 available now.

As with most things in football now, it'll come down to who's available and if it's doable financially.

The days of the sitting/holding midfield are numbered anyway, IMO.

Of course there'll always be the exceptions, but teams who play a holding midfield that can't do any of the offensive stuff (I'm talking in general, not about specific players) will soon, if they are not already, realise that they are playing with one hand tied behind their back in CM.

You can see it already - defensively minded midfielders are becoming more and more dynamic by the season.

The game is evolving and that will be one of the biggest changes in my view.

Judging by Mowbrays press conference I'd suggest we are looking for one on loan as he said 'cover the next 18 games'

He made it quire clear that Ekwar has never played a single senior mans football game and can't do what Evans does and is not a replacement for Evans.

Can’t see anything happening with cb position - the Pompey manager has said he thinks Wright will stay at Sunderland.
