Worst post I've ever read on here and that is saying something

Considering its bullshit too, where was the outcry when he was at swindon, people will say its only swindon but if his so called leanings got the goat of all these press idots then surely him simply being a manager in the english leagues was enough for the faux outrage?. Ohh and he had a column at the bbc and not an eyelid was battered.

I'm not claiming it's a conspiracy against Sunderland, I'm saying it's double standards by the press

We seem in agreement ;)

Absolutely. The press will adopt whatever stance they want to sell ad space. Not nice when we're on the receiving end, which is why a club needs a good press officer.

Has to be said. Red and white specs on lads.Anyone in football would have had the same treatment with those remarks in their past. Lets drop the persecution complex eh?

What a foolish post. The argument it proposes is that because the quality of press behaviour and reporting is appalling we should just shut up and let them get on with it.

Well, I for one do not agree with that, and I am delighted that so many of my fellow Sunderland fans feel the same.

I am proud to be a Sunderland fan and my fellow fans' responses to the press garbage has reinforced that pride.

With all of our faults Sunderland people have spirit and independence. We are not sheep. So it is natural that we should spring to the defence of our unique club.

Long live SAFC, and confusion to our enemies.

Today's statement drew a big fat line under it. There's no point hectoring journalists on Twitter, for the most part they were reacting to confusion that the club and Di Canio helped create. And of course some twisted and exploited it, that's the British press, but I don't see the point in trying to get journos to apologise on Twitter, as a handful of our fans are doing.

I agree. We are just as bad for not letting go. When the statement was made we should have stepped back and told the press to pick the bones out of that. If they don't like it tough. Nothing else we can do.

Again understand the world we operate in for what it is. According to many on here almost everyone in the media is out of order but the bloke who said in terms "I am a fascist" isnt. Its a matter of opinion whether the general standard "is appalling". They're subject to the laws of libel and mostly they comply. I wouldnt buy either but I know the Sun and the Mirror between them sell 3.5 millions newspapers every single day. They sell almost as many as all the other UK newspapers combined. If it was so appalling to so many people the papers wouldnt sell and the papers wouldnt survive. They do. Woe is me attitude is soft as shite. Especially as we all enjoy it when it happens elsewhere.

I agree with you.

I suspect also that there are many people on here complaining about double standards and hypocrisy who are themselves hypocritally applying double standards.

"The Sun's a shit newspaper, it posts intentionally provocative stuff to try and make a point, even if that stuff's out of context and is rubbish..."

... Then uses picture of Scargill from 1980's at a time when the Sun genuinely had a long campaign against him, the picture didn't even make it onto the paper, and was again, taken out of context.
