51 years ago, a little known striker hits SIX v SAFC

..... at Upton Park in a crushing 8 nil win - only the second 8 niller in Safc's illustrious history.

The striker was of course Geoff Hurst.

I was at a North Midlands League game at RP and cried me eyes out on way home when word went around the Main Stand of the score 😆😆

I recall the shock too, as a young lad it upset me a lot. Hurst was of course a World Cup hero at the time but I hated West Ham for a long time afterwards for inflicting that on us.
The big defeats later in life didn’t affect me at all, thats what supporting Sunderland for over 50 odd years does !

I was just getting into football so had no reference points for it but remember my uncle ranting about it. Watford meant a few after eights being brought in for bait time by our friends up the road.
