[4th test] Australia v England, Melbourne

Someone should be fined for producing that pitch.

Groundsman should be given a kick up the arse for a pitch like that. Ruined on of the great sporting showpieces.
If only I could type faster. Then you'd be the one looking like the mindless copier.

Only seconds in it, we'll call it a draw mate. It's what the groundsman would have wanted.
It's like someone covered the SOL pitch with marbles. Though at least that would be entertaining and we'd have a better chance of winning.

That was one if the most tedious tests I've ever watched, when it should have been thrilling.

Overall a disappointing match, but days 2 and 3 were a lot of fun.

Watching the Aussies chop on 3 times and collapse, cookie hitting his ton off smith, then hitting his double ton and breaking the MCG record for a foreign batsmen, whilst Stuart Broad edged his way to an unexpected 50.

It was never really on at any point in the day. I don't think the attack we had could have done much more on that track, we just didn't have the horses.

Am I the only one who thinks Root doesn't bowl enough. Seems to have a knack of getting a wicket

He's got a dodgy back that has to be managed.

Producing a pitch like that again should see MCG lose its test match status. Pointless test match from beginning to end.

They should take away the next boxing day test as punishment for this time. Give it to Tasmania. I imagine Hobart feels a lot like Durham if you're a cricket fan.

They've been saying these drop in are slower, point proved.
Oh great. The new Perth stadium is also a drop in, according to TMS.

I think they all are ... a result of these new footy and cricket combined stadiums.

Been really disappointing to see just how far behind he is in term of batting and captaincy. Be interesting to see how he matches up to Williamson and Kohli. Williamson could have the wood over him (and I don't expect pitches to favour us much there either btw, three draws there last time iirc although can't remember how much that was down to weather) Conditions might even things up against Kohli over here.

I can remember when they first started using them - might have been in New Zealand - and the general concensus was that they seemed to do the exact opposite of a normal test match pitch.

The flattened out and got better to bat on as the game progressed, rather than deteriorate to bring spin into the equation - nothing I've seen in this game seems to disprove that.

If they're going to become more commonplace, there might have to be a bit of a re-think about the tactics required to play on them.
