Its much more than that though. They shouldn't be picked purely on the basis that they can bowl the odd ball at 90 mph or above. Starc and Cummins can bowl 90 mph routinely and Hazlewood sometimes but they are all quality consistent quick bowlers.

I would have picked Plunkett because hes better than bowlers we did pick but he isn't as quick as the Aussie trio. Olly Stone is rapid but I didn't see anyone on here putting his name forward a few weeks ago.

I don't know enough about Stone - is he genuine Fast?

I know it's much more than just bowling 90+ mph, but you're arguing semantics there. I never suggested that our bowling attack for the tour should have been simply the quickest 6/7 bowlers who have British Passports - but everybody with a brain cell knows that we MUST pick someone who is genuinely fast - the selectors did not.

I also know that the success of Starc and Cummins has been due to their accuracy as much as their pace - especially their accuracy when bowling short - but coaches and bowlers can work on accuracy. You can't coach someone to bowl 10mph quicker. Besides, the greatest fast bowler of the modern era, Harmy, was often wayward, he'd often go for 5 an over plus in Tests, but he'd always take wickets. Its also worth remembering too, how quickly the Aussie quicks can knock over our tail.

Ian Pont reckons you can coach to bowl fast.
I listened to him on the BBC 5 live cricket show being interviewed about it. He was brilliant talking about bio mechanics and how backward cricket still is in the coaching of fast bowlers especially in this country.

I have only seen him once in a one day game towards the end of the season and he was rapid - skiddy 90+ every ball. No idea whether he could sustain it for longer than a few overs but he was quick. I also saw Meaker towards the end of the season and his speeds were way down in the early 80s.

Aye. Good point, forgot about him - no idea if he's fit and firing like (or was during the domestic season), maybe @TheRey can enlighten us (??) - but he's another option.

What's more - can't Mark Footitt bowl upwards of 90mph too?
Meaker can still bowl 90mph + - normally he'll be 88/89 but he can break that barrier - but he's incredibly unreliable. Almost permanently injured, which is a real shame. He can move the ball through the air at pace, too.

Footitt is again that very high 80's bracket, but more reliable.
