Might be quite useful if you are in the habit of blowing up smartphone images to A2 I suppose. :confused:

Totally bizarre :lol:

Has it really a 41 mp sensor? And then you stick a shite tiny lens on it

Why don't Nokia make digi backs and cameras if you can produce such a sensor to stick in a phone cheap enough?

I sniff BS

Bit early for April fools? Have to wonder how much of that is 'upscaled' or whatever the word they use - surely can't be due to a massive sensor. Either way it seems daft to have it attached to a shit camera phone lens.

OK, found this.

The Nokia 808 PureView uses a 41 MP sensor, which captures image data from seven adjacent pixels and condenses it into one, resulting in stills at around 5 MP resolution with amazing detail and low noise levels. The optics are Carl Zeiss and there's Xenon flash and a LED one acting as a video light.

:eek::confused:

And some more, sensor is still pretty small:

So basically it's 5mp, not 41mp

Just a wacky new method of extrapolation

edit:

What a weird document

It starts off saying it's 41mp

Then it spends the rest of the time seemingly making excuses for why it's only 5mp :confused:

The sensor itself is 41Mpix, it just oversamples that to average out the noise.

As we all know though, nothing beats the glass size and sensor size as ultimately that is the light gathering ability.

Still, the marketing people will love it.
