If the vaccine roll out was a disaster the government would have got the blame. So it's only fair to give them credit for it's roll out along with the strategy to obtain so much vaccine supplies

However it seems very clear the freedom the Indian variant had to spread into tbd uk is the main point here, which Johnson wants to deflect from.
£3b of hospitality revenue and 200k jobs thought to be the impact of 4 week delay …..

Yes that's right, even so I always thought it was overly ambitious. Espcially calling it 'Freedom Day'. We'll get there, folks will need to be patient a bit longer but having pubs, restaurants and shops open, it's pretty much back to normal regardless. Which may be contributing to the spread?
