3rd Ashes Test - Headingley

Tomorrow forecast looks cloudy according to BBC and Metoffice, Australia might not be out this yet.

Not to mention England took a 90 run lead in the first innings at Edgbaston and still managed to lose by a whooping 251 runs.

300 is the minimum score tomorrow, anything less is a failure when they've got Lyon bowling last.

Anything could happen with our batting line up. Nobody could be shocked if we were skittled by tea.

Hopefully some luck and patience sees us with a healthy lead by close tomorrow with plenty of wickets still in hand.

Early days with Archer but he has a chance of grabbing the public's attention in the same way that Botham did when he burst onto the international scene. He could be THE superstar of British sport and bring this game we all love back to the widespread popularity it held years ago. No pressure then!
I think he thrives under that sort of pressure, if he's the star and expected to perform, it lifts him. We saw that in the 2nd test and also with how he coped with the World Cup pressure.

What we haven't seen yet is how he'll cope when Australia are 300/3 batting on a road on a baking hot day at the Gabba, that'll be the real character test for him.

He will just knock them out!

No doubt we'll go in to the second innings with a lead of about 50

Great shout. A 136-2 I was twitching a bit

With the right management and coaching he can only get better.

As if we are going to post 450 plus.

No doubt a combination of being over bowled and unrealistic expectations will see for him. Root was poor with him yday.

Was already comments on here about him being off it and looking sluggish just because he wasn't running through them with 90 odd mphs deliveries. Poor sod was going up the hill.

Buzzing for today. Looking slightly overcast but looks like it’ll clear up later. Could be a tough first session.

Think we need to get to 300 minimum. 350 puts us a in a good space.

Tomorrow is probably best overhead conditions of the weekend, so it’d be nice to try and bat more than a day but I’m not holding any hope!

Love a Headingley test match me. Had some cracking weekends there over the years.

Square pegs. Round holes

Roy is never a test opener
Neither is Denly
Bairstow and Buttler can’t bat at 5
Both are lucky to be in the side still, albeit some form from Bairstow at least
Buttler desperately needs runs. He’s a specialist batsman apparently
buttler is a wicket keeper batsman to be fair. Fair enough he is in the side as a batsman.

Aye class. Live a couple of miles up the road from Headingley, so have been in the western terrace every year for the test match since I’ve been up here.

Weathers looking canny, should be good crack if we can put some runs on the board today.

We were all getting twitchy. But a bit of bad luck and poor execution doesn't make the initial decision a poor one

It's difficult to say, isn't it? The bowling was pretty ordinary for a large part of the day and it seems obvious that they could have gone for less. I'd be delighted with a 100 lead.

Great start and great finish bookending an hour or so of really ordinary cricket, not just the two bowlers but in the field as well. We were unlucky to be only 50odd/2 at the second rain break, Warner had played and missed more than Burns at Lords. Well into double figures.

Best bowling conditions were yesterday, best batting conditions should be the today and tomorrow. Even if we hadn't had pulled it round, it was the correct decision.
