Tickets absolutely were given away like. I worked in the offices behind the ground and participated in the mail-shot process and the returned letters.
Always said this was as likely to be a problem as a benefit because people I knew at school that never went to games went to the odd freebie saw a naff game (some Southampton game) and thought "why would I pay for that". Murray had a thing about out attendancing the Mags did he not? Think that was the route of it.
Pretty certain we've never gave away 10k free season tickets like.🤔

I'm a long term fan also. I can remember 45000+ every home game. I can also remember 12 - 15,000 at home games quite regularly when we were a mediocre old 2nd Division club. This sort of attendance in tier 3 is quite brilliant.
Cant say fairer than that mate. Pre SoL wasn't anything to write home about, first years at the SoL the crowds were class, been hit and miss since then, but over 30k after 4years in the third tier is what it is - really, really, fkn good

Either way it’s a good gesture from both Sunderland and Newcastle . Don’t see why some get all insecure about it. North East isn’t the most affluent area and getting the grounds full is better than having thousands of empties , although as has already been mentioned the distribution of these free tickets probably wasn’t done fairly . Schools , emergency services and families below the poverty line would be the right way to go

Better than those 40k crowds in the prem IMO

Well they’ve never averaged 40,000 in their entire history so that’s not a given.
Yes I know that, but the here and now says they would . They were selling out week after week when they were going for the title/top 4 not long before they imploded, and were limited to 39/40k capacity. Surely if their ground would have been bigger back then they would have averaged 40k+ . They have 36 capacity now which sells out and they have thousands on the waiting list for a season ticket along with about 30k memberships that can apply for individual tickets . Their catchment area is huge, mind, surely one of the biggest if not biggest in the country ?
No f***ing chance.
Easily would going off what I’ve said above

Their capacity is just under 38,000.
They averaged just over 35,000 last season.
They’re not actually selling their stadium out.
Their catchment area is huge and they’re a one club city, on that basis their crowds have never been that impressive.

Leeds are the worst supported team in the country based on the size of their city and catchment area. Never gives me the impression that it's really a football place though whenever I've visited.

Highest home crowd this season is 36500 v Liverpool . Their capacity has come down over the years and now stands at 36k . Every home game has sold out this season I’d imagine with only away end not being fully sold out by certain teams. 20k on waiting list although that can be misleading as not all would take up a season ticket if offered one. I agree with not being overly impressed with their home numbers purely because what’s available to them in terms of catchment area

Big out of town support
Leeds can be perfectly compared with us, both had 3 seasons in this league with fans in. The numbers tell the story.
They were paying ridiculous prices, too.

52k per week, when you get that, pm me
Obsessed with attendance you lot mind
