Well since opening the SOL we’ve averaged well over 35,000 fifteen times.

Our crowds remain great after 4 years in third division -with back to back relegations -35000 is very good
Most Mags I talk to appreciate this and if they don’t mentioning 1990 averages usually helps ..( but but that was a long time ago so doesn’t count! Is the standard response)

Sheffield Wed sold out their original allocation of 2821. They did not receive any further tickets. Due to the A1 being closed much of the day at Darrington, near Pontefract, due to a major traffic accident , some of their coaches turned around after they were told that they would not reach Sunderland until 9 pm. Three of us York based fans took an Owl fan/ticketless,season ticket holder,up to the game at mid day. He’d bought a ticket on one of their sites but the seller was stuck in the traffic jam. He managed to get a ticket in their end outside the SOL on the night.
Good drink, great game and atmosphere. He really enjoyed his day but not the result. Back hyem 1am.

42k isn't big enough for a successful SAFC.

We were pushing for top 6 in the Premier League for a while under Bruce and crowds were around the 38k mark. We were 6th going into our last home game before Xmas and the crowd was 35k. We were still 6th on NYD when we battered Blackburn and the attendance was 36,000 and the way football is now we're not going to get close to that for years to come.

What we have is a very devoted core fanbase where we may get 36k at the top end of the Prem but over 30k in League One. 42,000 was the perfect capacity for us and the stadium looked better for it as well.

Crowds were bigger under Reid when had couple successful seasons
I don’t count the Bruce era as the type of success that would warrant an extension, the potential is there though and always has been , IMO

"We may get 36k at the top end of the prem"😂

You think that we'd only get 36,000 if we were doing well in the premier league?

So if we were near top of prem our crowds would go up by 1,000 from what we had at a night match in the third division? Hmmmm

Apart from the dozens of times we've had more in.
I’m sure many teams in the country could get 5k more in than their grounds allow a couple of times a season but they won’t be expanding their grounds. 42k was perfect size for us and allowed a demand for tickets.

If you can pull bigger crowds than your ground holds then it's to small.
It's as simple as that.

The nou camp must be too small for Barcelona then as they can pull in over 100k occasionally but it’s half full a lot of the time
Now you're being f***ing silly.

If we're doing well in the top flight we'd regularly pull in over 42k.
As you well know.

We've had 3 top 10 finishes in the top division since 1956. In that same timescale (65 years) we've averaged over 42k on 5 occasions. 42k was ample.

Like I say we were 6th in the PL and pulled in crowds of 35k and 36k in consecutive games. In my opinion we have a core of 25/30k of some of the most devoted fans in World football and another 10/12k floaters.
