31 years ago, Marco scores a hat-trick at home to Ipswich

we never had a striker as exciting to watch since

supakev, defoe obviously higher level players and better finishers, but strikers with direct pace and power like that cause panic in defences

loved watching kenwyne on his day as well, couldnt get away with graham, fletcher,

used to dream of a gabbiadini and steve bull strike duo for us

but have a feeling andy mutch was similar to gates and they worked as a pair well
Aye, the G Force.
They were an ideal pairing.
Gatesy held the ball up superbly, & had the quick, neat flicks and lay off's, while Marco the explosive pace and raw power, and a cracking shot on him.
@Boinger were wba and wolves same division in the steve bull era

Marco in full flow was such an exciting sight for a Sunderland fan late 80s.

football was so different then, even when we were dire i feel like we had a go at teams and the players tried.

its a lot more tactical grind now
Bull and Mutch were great for Wolves, back in the day.
Bull was capped by England, as a third division player, iirc.
yeah bull scored too.

leroy rosenior always looked good v us

My first ever game. What a debut eh favourite player scoring a hatrick and getting sent off. I can remember it as well, in the Fulwell End with me Father he sat me on the barriers all game, couldn't feel me legs in my bobble hat and scarf. I thought I was a bit older but if it was 31 year ago i'll have been 6, the mind plays tricks. HTL
