2nd Test: Grenada

You are. First time I've come across him and I'm assuming he's about 18 judging by him wetting his knickers over this.

He was. Listen to what he says before you wet your knickers.

Mate you are the one constantly slating the team, need to grow up and give praise where it is due, played well to win this test,

Not sure he's going OTT, just being positive. The team isn't perfect but it's about 70% there. No idea about the Ashes but I'm sure they'll put in the effort. Don't want to see Trott in the side though...
Tell you what my problem is. It's a bit like safc. One swallow always makes A summer and then a defeat next game and it's all doom and gloom.

By now we all know what a good test team looks like and it doesn't look like the current englNd team.

Clearly good to win but I'll put a lid on it until I see them play someone decent

Ultimately I don't like moores.

Can't see he will be to be honest now

There are issues in the team mind, our 3rd seamer isn't strong enough, does Stokes fit in? (I think he does), Ali at 6?

Well thats a more sensible post, but nobody is saying we are a great side, but we have won 4 out of our last 5 tests, and I think to just be saying we are a poor side is unfair and unjustified

Australia might be a better side, no big deal.

I agree to some degree. Particularly about Moores...

The third seamer is an issue. Jordan seems like a filler option, Finn has issues, others have problems, Stokes is in for his batting currently. Ali should be 6 or 7 if he plays.

I think they need Ali and Stokes in personally as they are both good bowlers in their own right, and we need a long batting lineup against Australia

Jordan and Woakes worry me, Plunkett will get a gig in Barbados I imagine, needs to take wickets and make himself undroppable

The trouble with Test cricket is that games against a variety of teams don't come along very often, apart from England Australia which seem to happen every few months lately and hence trying to work out a true measure of how you're doing is difficult.

So although we're said to be the 3rd best Test team do we really think that's accurate? I don't know if we're better than New Zealand, at not the current NZ because I don't know how they're playing with Boult et al but I'd guess they're better than they have been. I know Pakistan always are difficult to play against and also South Africa have shown over the years they have strength in depth to take us apart.

I sorry but I don't take that much from being able to beat India (or Sri Lanka even though we didn't) last year. SA, Pak and Aus are the yardsticks for Test cricket as far as I'm concerned.

Still a win away from home even against WI is worth celebrating.

Yes, we will probably get schooled this summer TBF but nice to finally win an away test and it takes your mind off the footie for five minutes.

What have we learned so far?
Cook - starting to get a few good knocks but fair to say jury is still out
Trott is not an opener, and his England career should be over. Must play Lyth in Barbados
Balance and Root will be the backbone of our batting line up for several years
We need to stop the silly run outs
Jimmy Anderson remains a match winner. We will need to find the next Jimmy pretty soon
Stokes needs to bat at six. His temperament is still a big problem. His bowling has been good in short spells but poor on the whole
Jordan doesn't bring enough to the team, try Wood or Plunkett in Barbados
Our bowling needs more variety:
Need an out and out quick and/or a left arm seamer
Tredwell and Ali are good containing bowlers but we need a front-line, wicket taking spinner to force the issue on batting wickets

If Woakes is anywhere near the test team in the summer , someone involved with selection needs to be parade around Walsall nude.

The next Jimmy is a massive worry. Anyone any ideas?

Good post.

 bit harsh, I think they are trying to groom him into the next Jimmy, I've seen nothing in him like

There aren't many bowlers out there mind

The fact Mark Wood got on a tour shows that, he has ability but has been hit and miss for Durham.

I think this too. Woakes has an excellent work ethic. If Jimmy is able to impart whatever he has learned to a third party then I can think of no better student than Woakes. Whether it comes as naturally to him, as Jimmy, is another matter.

Good point. Has Mark Wood ever swung it?
