I know this is test cricket. But is anyone else hoping one of these gets out soon? Soo boring watching these 2 at the crease, it's as if they are batting to save the test. 2 runs in 5 overs haway

Absolutely not at all like, excellent batting this, bizarre post.
Like Ballance at 3 me, even if he gets out while I type this, perfect temperament, and looks a lot better than Root there IMO.

Nope. Playing it well these two. Plenty of time in the game so keep things simple and wear the opposition out.
He needs to back to leaving and making the bowler bowl to his strengths.

Some poor bowling is cut to the ropes for he 50. Ballance has played really well, patient innings and picking them off.

You've basically got 3 old fashioned cricketers in the top 3. Set the tone for the innings and give a solid start before the stroke players at 4-7 come in. The team suddenly looks beautifully balanced. Apart from a lack of spinner

I dunno mate, as much as I like Stokes and want to shoe horn him in somewhere. I feel that his bowling isnt there yet and his batting won't be as good as Ali's.
So stick with current team I reckon.
Agree with you, but I think the emergence of a specialist spinner (if and when it happens) may force the selectors' hands. Stokes is a very useful No.6 but agree he needs to work on his bowling - that said, he seemsto be one of those players who just seems suited to Test cricket.
one thing is for sure - Ali is and never will be a front line spinner. A decent 6th bowler where required but not much difference between him and Root IMHO (in bowling ability)

Don't get me wrong mate, I totally agree with you this current side is lacking a front line spinner. But sometimes we just have to do without and play to our strengths. It's all well and good waiting for a top spinner, but I don't think we'll see one soon. Well if that Rashid keeps on developing we might see him in a few years. But who else is out there?
I see where you are coming from about root and ali's bowling, however Id still play them both. Fuck it if we got no proper spinner lets bat well and bowl quick. Worked for a few quailty teams in the past.

Yeah - if our seamers are good enough then why not go with 4 of them? Ali and Root will pick up a wicket now and then.
In terms of emerging spinners, it's a (slow) race between Rashid, Borthwick, Kerrigan and Adam Riley (Kent)

Panesar is the best English spinner and should be in
I don't think the four seamers are good enough to go without a proper spinner, certainly not for the sub continent anyway.

Well no, obviously you wouldn't play in Asia without a spinner. you need a minimum of 2 with at least 1 part timer. Asia is different to the rest of the world in terms of bowling conditions. In all other parts of the world, 4 seamers and 1/2 part time spinner(s) should be adequate where you have no specialist.
Disagree re Monty. He's had his chance and now has personal/attitude issues to go with his modest abilities as a cricketer
