I know Kohli played his first 93 innings between 08-13 and Root 13-18 so a completely different game but.

Kohli 93 innings 13 not out 4085 @50.35 13 tons 22 halfs SR86.03 6 ducks
Root isn't really mentioned as a best ODI bat. Averaged over 70 in 2017 didn't make team of the year.
His average is now 80 on the nose since NYD 2017, only bairstow with better.

He should have made the team like. Dinna why we moved him to 4 like but he's still batting well
Nope, he did make a record score in the one day cup final but he was also in very good county form too.
As for totally different it isn't. It is different but batting and scoring runs is as much confidence and form if the ability is there.
Edit: he made 187 not out on July 1st as above then 218 on 7th August in a county match.

Was watching the 1st ODI the other day and someone on comms (cant remember who??) said exactly the same...I had to check cos I knew he was wrang as well

If anyone's been watching the Big Bash the signs have been there that their white ball cricket is lagging behind other teams. Can't recall any scores over 200 (not that it makes it any less entertaining, far from it) but only a couple of lads I've seen seem capable of playing a big explosive innings like a Roy or a Hales or a Stokes. Darcy Short and Chris Lynn. Then there's Maxwell who they won't pick.

I thought it was significant that when we were all making our choices for the Test team there was lots of discussion and disagreement - we couldn't do it easily. It was the exact opposite for the one-day team, the team was easy to pick with confidence in all of them (knowing that if a few didn't score that would be compensated for by the others)
