Absolutely embarressing considering where they are in the league and the football they are playing.

Scored 8 in the previous 3 games anarl.

They come under the Lancashire excuse of Man Utd, Man City etc but surely there is still a fair amount of Bolton fans in amongst the glory 'fans'

When bolton is pretty much in manchester, wonder how many support the two mancs clubs in that area. Let alone rugby to contend with.

Bolton has a population of about 140,000, which is about half that of Sunderland, and it also has the competition of several massive clubs on their doorstep as you mentioned, as well as rugby league being a massive sport in that area.

So their attendances are more impressive than ours on a per-capita basis.

Why the obsession with attendances?

So what if thats what they're getting? Bolton have never been a massively supported side, probably due to the fact that they're in an area closely surrounded by the two most successful English sides. Add to that, the price of tickets, the current climate etc, football is not the be all and end all of life you know.

Crowds have been down for the vast majority of PL clubs this season.

Sunderland has a population of 177,000. The surrounding areas have mixed Newcastle, Sunderland and other support.

And you really think Bolton will pick up much support from their surrounding areas? There is 4 professional clubs in the North East, there is a shit load in the North West.

What confused you?

the "considering the 2,900 mags" bit. Surely that means the crowd is poorer? Having more away fans in your ground doesn't make a fairly small crowd more acceptable..

Aye but the 50-50 support in old County Durham has a massive positive impact on our attendances. Remember over 50% of supporters in the SOL on matchday dont live in Sunderland.
Sunderland AFC is very much a regional (old county Durham club) club wheras Bolton is a town club.
Same with Boro, who may be the best supported major club in the north east based on actual catchent area / population.

Is the right answer.

Sunderland AFC are lucky to have the catchment area that they do. The city itself, most of Eastern County Durham, half of South Tyneside, half of Western Country Durham as well as half of satelllite towns such as Washington.

Other than freak one off crowds 20k is about the standard crowd for Bolton. I'm not sure where people get the idea that if say bolton won the CL they'd pull in say 50k (if the stadium held that many). they wouldnt because they dont have that fan base.

22k is by and large a good crowd for bolton - get over it.

correct. You can't get bigger attendences if you don't have the support its as simple as that really
