I don’t understand how so many people are still dying when for most people it’s just like a cold. Surely most of them must be dying with it and not from it?
For most people it is minor, for some it’s more serious and for a very unfortunate few, it can be fatal and those odds increase if you’re elderly, CEV or haven’t been fully vaccinated.

I understand that, the numbers still seems pretty high though even taking those into consideration. I wonder if this is as good as it’s going to get?

Ah, sorry! I think maybe it’s an effect of the huge case numbers we we’ve been having recently. Hopefully it’ll greatly reduce in line with the case numbers.

I think flu deaths avereage around 150 per day in January, so that would be a decent yardstick. In addition there are many in care that have probably lived a year longer because of isolation from all viruses, though what that is worth when you can't see your family.

For the vast majority of people it's a very mild disease but because we've had such high infection rates the deaths were always going to rise

Also remember - the governments own data has shown that 37% of those in hospital who have Covid are not being treated for it - so someone who goes in with heart disease, catches mild covid but then dies of the heart disease will still be recorded as a covid death

When we're out of this we really need to look at how we've collected and reported data
