No, being an old east coastal port city that's been through decline (like Hull) in the last 40 years and with a more fashionable neighbour (for us Newcastle, for Hull it's Leeds), maybe too many of our idea's were too similar to Hull's.

Coventry is one of the biggest shitholes in the uk tbf they needed this more than us imho. Sunderland has lots of regeneration going on at present and in the immediate future with the new bridge, the new corridor from the new bridge to the town, the seafront is going to have millions spent on it soon, the vaux site and the new stadium village which both sites will be transformed in the near future. The beacon of light is almost finished. Things are happening in Sunderland and also I've just been getting a new hot tub so fuck you Coventry, you cheating twats

Don't think you've ever been to Coventry m8 it's a cracking city with a lot more culture to it than ours so deserved the award. I have relatives there and it's a great place to visit especially the city centre.

Funny you should mention that, because this place was a scene of absolute jubilation when Newcastle/Gateshead lost out the ECoC bid to Liverpool.
