Couple of questions, out on the bike yesterday somebody passed me ( young &$#@+&).The wheels on the bike looked huge, around 1 metre, but standard tyres 25 30 mm ish,not big fat tyres.Anybody seen them or got any experience of them,I ride around on 700c wheels tyres .
When I was a lad Sturmey Archer 3 speed twist grip gears were all the rage. Before the 10 speed racing bikes came in,2 levers on the frame below the handlebars, gears always broke down.
Anyhoo I think those Sturmey Archer hubs are up to around 7 or 8 speed now. Bumped into a guy and he said one of his mates had the 7 or 8 speed hub with a 10 speed cassette attached to the hub.Great idea I thought, universal gearing.Anybody heard of them
Lastly being old and retired and living in a sunny climate in Australia I'm out on the bike every day doing between 50 to 80 klms.I tend to need a new chain and cassette every 4 - 6 months. The guy at the bike shop says chains etc should last around 5,000 klms.I keep forgetting to oil the chain so it does run dry. When I remember it's the old 3 in 1 oil goes on it
Anybody got any ideas ,comments.
Thanks guys
