That's a bit impressive, in a bonkers kind of way. I didn't even get on the bike over the weekend. The most strenuous thing I did was going brambling.
How long did it take you?

Finished just after 7 tonight, so 37 hours? We took it fairly easy as we had a late train booked. 6th fastest out of a few dozen though ;)

Do you sleep on these, or is just like ultra running, checkpoints and away you go?

Depends how fast ya gan. I put a screen grab of some GPS data on Instagram the other day. Got about 2 and a half hours last night. Luxury.

What bike do you use for these kind of rides?
When I used to do a bit of touring I don't think I ever did more than about 12 hrs in any one day. I suspect the first problem I would have with longer rides would be with my neck unless I had a very very upright position. I read that the guy who set a new lejog record this year had big problems later in the ride cos he couldn't hold his head up any more.

Shermers neck it’s called. Interestingly, only ever happens to cyclists who have been wearing a helmet...

I just use my racy Canyon. Alu frame, carbon forks, 32 spoke wheels, half a mudguard, 120mm stem. I’ve always a found a ‘racier’ fit more comfortable than a ‘touring’ fit.

Short commute to work this morning (6 miles) and I think it's the wettest I've ever been. Fucking pissed down.

Rode through a Ford today and didn't quite make it . About 20 yards of water and I got to within a yard of the other side when I hit slime on the concrete and the bike disappeared underneath me. Sat on me arse in the river with the other lads who had all opted for the footbridge pissing themselves.

Aye terrible that...random training collision, albeit at high speed just how unlucky she’s been.
Suggests it’s permanent but hope wrong

  16. Just read an interview and she seems to have accepted it. Saying her arms are her legs now and her life will be 4 wheels instead of 2

Can anyone give any bike lock advice?

After losing an Oxford cable lock in transit and generally having been annoyed at the pain of coiling and uncoiling it, I went for a Kryptonite D lock. I couldn’t mount it in the main frame triangle because it left no room for my bike bottles. I tried it on the thinner tubes by the back wheel, and it was a great place to mount it but it would slip a bit. I discovered at the weekend it had been wearing away one of the welding joints with the small amounts of movement. While convenient, I dont think that bit of frame is big enough for a lock mount.

There was a mount hole back there on the opposite side to the chain and I stuck a bolt through, but it came off on the way home when I got going at speed. Where ever I mount it, it rattles like hell.

Looking again at cable locks, most have poor reviews. I either need a good cable lock £20-£30 range or a way to mount the d lock where it will stay secure and not sound like I’m hauling a bag of spanners. I could design and 3d print a bracket if anyone has a good idea.

What do other people do, who want two water bottles and a lock?

  19. I need only one bottle and use a coil lock. But could put another water bottle in a back pocket. If i really needed the D lock, i'd consider a rucksack.

Rucksack for me when I'm using my proper lock. Or pannier. Or on the back rack, but it rattles.

Hiplok? They look shite and will break your hip if you fall off, but easy to carry.
