It was his heel I think. And he did successfully plant the ball into the stands as I recall.

On the cap issue, I’ve always found it a bit harsh that if your cap comes off accidentally as a batter you take the hit wicket consequences, but a fielder has to take it off on purpose before the five run penalty applies.
