I was driving a Notarianni van round the north of the river estates, tranny on. Like a bomb had dropped. Streets empty. Until after extra time. Then sold more cornets and wafers in an hour than in a week. Watched it on the tele the next day on replay.

iplayer ?

No. Before he made the national team. Seeler was the main man.
Seeler, Haller, Beckenbaur were the top lads in that team. I’d nivver noticed how good Held was previously, he was ghosting past players. As a kid I wanted to be called Wolfgang cos of Overath even though he wasn’t that good. I still do tbh. Wolfgang Riffraff:cool:.

Just looked. Muller was 20 in 66. Made his debut for Germany in a 1966 friendly. No idea if it was before or after WC.
Played for his home town team Nordlingen at 18 for a season with 51 goals in 31 games  before joining Bayern playing one season in southern league scoring 33 in 26 games which got Bayern promoted to the Bundesliga in its second season. He then scored 15 in 33 which was the last time he had less than a goal every other game record until the season he retired at Fort Lauderdale in 1979. 😂
Insane stats.
He basically made Bayern.

It's noticeable that the only Bayern players in the squad were Beckenbauer and Maier. Maier, if I remember rightly, was only backup to Tilkowski. The club with most players in the squad was Dortmund.

Lovely trophy. Better than the later version.
Aye. The goddess of Victory. Nike. Hope the next one doesn’t become some massive big handled generic heap of shite which seems to be the fashion nowadays.

Aye 65-66 was Bayern’s first Bundesliga season. Mind it was only the Bundesligas second season.
Get your mitts on a book called “ Tor” published by When Saturday Comes. It’s an English language history of German football. Must be about 15yrs old now but there’s been a few updated versions since I think. Very good read.
I think it was only the second Eng Lang forrin footie history after Morbo of Spain. They started a bit of a craze in the publishing industry. Widening interests has to be a good thing.

Clever title. Tor's original meaning in German is gate or archway, and they then used it for goal, as in "in Tor stehen" - to go in goal.

Nordlingen which is Mullers birthplace is the place featured in the final aerial shots of Willy Wonka! Pilgrimage route reqd ASAP. Anyone been? The number of ex military lads on here stationed ower there surely someone has?

Could be a future random thread generator that. Pick a famous player, wiki him, post his birthplace and a few facts about it and see if we’ve someone who has been? Waddya reckon?

Aye.
It’s all their commentator shouted when they scored in the winning goal in the 54 final apparently which is why the author chose it. A rebirth after WW2 for the country type of thing iirc. Might dig it out for another read. Currently reading Granville’s latest (pre Russia) WC history, got it brand new for 50p from our local antiques market bookstall a few weeks back.
