19 Managers in 21 years.

Since Peter Reid left the club in October 2002 we have had 19 permanent managers in 21 years.

Do we really want to make that stat a little bit worse at this point in time, has Tony Mowbray done so badly that some fans are totally justified in calling for his head.

I think not, he's done enough to deserve more time.
Poor tactical decisions against boro, plymouth,Huddersfield to name a few and looks so unmotivated during press conferences how the fuck can he motivate the players ? Club and players have stalled slowly under him and I can’t see any wins or points in the next 5/6 imo but let Tony have more time tho ….we’ll be in a relegation in no time if we do 🤷🏻‍♂️

Like the striker scenario if you sign a good manager with real pedigree there’s more chance he’ll stay a while and progress the club.

In the 21 years you mention there’s been some hideous managerial choices.
The high turnover is an indication that we either recruited the wrong/shite manager/head coach, or that they were good but failed at SAFC.

Mowbray is technically a head coach - he should be coaching the players to improve and to perform on a match day.

True, his options are limited in some positions due to recruitment and injuries.

But we sign players and either don’t play them, or play them out of position.

So is the argument here that we have used our quota of managerial changes making mistakes in the past, so we are best sticking with what we have got?

How many managers per year do you need before it is reasonable to change again? If we go with say one every 3 years, then that is an average of 0.333 managers per season. That sounds healthy. Using the logic that we have a too high manager to season ratio, then we should not let Tony leave for another 36 years.

I'm not sure if the historic changes of manager is sound logic for deciding what we should do to address an underperforming team now.

Agree marra, but it's getting harder to defend him by the week.

We have, and in that time the only manager I was bothered about losing was Allardyce.
We already have continuity with the Dof model in place - we dont necessarily need it with coaches

Should only be thinking of sacking him if were sat in the bottom half for a while.

I want a new manager next season mind, and this approach gives us time to choose.

This is a consolidation season. Fully expect us to open the chequebook next season and address our problems. If we dont, can see the fans turning on the owners.

Bring back wilko and Cotterell

By that rationale are managers or coaches now becoming a thing of the past?

They would appear to be the one person at a club that is totally expendable, maybe the team skipper or the owner or the DOF will end up picking the team and deploying the tactics.

This is not meant to sound flippant, it seems to be where we are heading ?

We’d have been fine under Big Sam if England hadn’t come calling.
It is a BSA type manager we need now. We have a decent team but they are just not playing well together. When he came in, he made a few subtle changes and got us playing to our strengths. Under Mowbray, I feel we don't really have any tactics. Good players, good team spirit, get out on the pitch lads and give it a go.

Way I see it, do you think Mowbray is doing a fantastic job or do you think he's reached his limitations here?

We all questioned the set up before kick off last night, and the same things are now getting pointed out on a weekly basis. We're so predicable that clubs at the foot of the table can get something from us without really breaking a sweat.

There's little room for sentiment in football, it often looks like a game of constant 'stick or twist', but for me, I think we've reached a point where if we really do have aspirations of being a top 4 side, we need someone at the helm who's adaptable in situations, someone who's attitude and desire to win, rubs of on the playing staff.
I just don't see any of that with Tony. I don't see any passion or enthusiasm in the dug out, I don't hear it in his press conferences. His presence and demeanour probably bares familiarity to a team happy to tread water, mid table.

If he was buying/recruiting the players then I would have serious doubts after last night, however he has very little say on who is brought in and allowed to leave tbf.
I get that but you also have to take into account the way we're set up, substitutions and use of the squad.

We're rapidly turning into a dull side that passes without much purpose. Very slow and we overload central areas then hope Clarke can do something once there isn't much space for him

Last thing we need imo. This squad isn't set up for a pragmatic approach.
