that was the big acid test for me the schools reopening looks like we’ve smashed that
Agreed. We should start to see if there is any impact in opening pubs and non-essential shops, within the next couple of days too. Schools opening seemed to level off cases for a while and then they dropped. They were already dropping a lot before term ended. I suppose one difference with schools is it is a known group with lots of testing. It makes the track and trace easy, just get in touch with everyone in the class. Pubs and shops are more ad-hoc. Though it seems like lots of people went a bit nuts that first day then things have settled down to normal levels. I think the cold evenings has helped and it won't be such a novelty by the time it is nice to sit out.

7 day average down to 2,588, which is the best since September 8th, so we are really making progress now. Last Monday was the big spike when they added on lots of 'lost' data. Once that has gone we should see a big drop in average cases.

In the knowledge that we took a big hit in the second wave, I always thought that would have given a lot of herd immunty, as in the weakest had already beed sought out by the virus. Opening the pubs will have surely spread the virus to the remaining few who would be asymtomatic in the main. If i'm right, there should be no spike from the last week of extra socialising.

Onwards anmd upwards 👍

it's off and on the same amount of jabs, just the ratio has changed to give it to those who need it more. i don't think there's ever been a real slow down.

ps, i know you're not saying there has been mind.
It's just plateaued . We were getting used to seeing week in week increases and propel expected that to continue...

The limiting factor was always going to be the supply of the vaccine. I think the government were expecting more from India which hasn't materialised due to the situation there.

Did the slow down in vaccinations actually ever happen?
Yes, kind of.

Total vaccinations per day, 1st and 2nd combined can be seen at

Scroll down to “Number of vaccinations given, by report date.” There was a sharp drop after the 29th March and it has not really picked up. Some was a dip over Easter weekend, but we have still not returned to the heights. But another way of looking at it, is the back half of March was exceptional and if you take that out you can draw a reasonably level line from early Jan until now.

The single day with the most vaccinations was 19 March with 711,156 so we have dropped a little from that high but over 600k in a day, as we reported today, is still a massive number. Well done to all concerned.
Our best day was actually 844,285 jabs.

By way of comparison Germany (a bigger population than us) have only had one single day when they vaccinated more than we did yesterday. That was a higher than average weekday day for us but we have beaten that total 8 times.

I would rather that we just concentrate on our efforts, I'm sure that if Germany wanted to compare some numbers; Cases, deaths, numbers in hospital etc. then we may not look so good. I applaud our efforts at vaccinations and the greens being reported by us and don't think we should engage in comparisons to make us feel good, our numbers alone should do that.

I am merely comparing one of our nearest countries, one of the better performaning ones to ourselves. Some on the continent and on this forum have been quick to play down our success and tell us they will catch up. They won't anyime soon, it's a ridiculous notion.
