11 Freunde Sunderland TIL I die

Always wonder what younger fans think of these sorta things as they watch them
I consider myself a bit of a Dinosaur, but gimme any old ground of any old club and I love it.
Roker park was one, Goodison, Villa park, Hillsborough still hold a bit of the sort of...You turn a corner and there they stand, surrounded by a community, sort of ramshackle but simply reek of football, Highbury was the same, get off at Finsbury.Walk past a few houses and there it is , it rears up.
Bramall lane...(Til they built another stand and stopped what it was famous for...f.ookin' cricket!)

There are a fair few Owls fans would like to leave Hillsborough, I would honestly hate it, and I know some of it is down to '89 and the tragedy that happened there, and I would understand a Liverpool fan who would like to see it flattened
But...Hillsborough simply screams "Old time football".Rattles rosettes, tobacco...If we left it...I think I would still go and sit in the rubble and sniff the bloody bricks.
So it must have been a wrench for Sunderland fans to leave Roker.
Roker park, those 2 terraces behind the goals, working class football...Sheer history
I remember one old bloke complaining when they put a roof on our Kop...."Sodding ridiculous..Yer gonna be miserable, you may as well get wet!!!"

Would love to see any old videos of Roker park . Never saw the Roker End at full hight because they reduced the stand hight . But 70000 crowd must have been something else . Looks like the interview is at Fulwell end on Sandringham terrace .

Cracking post mate.

View media item 7284That was a canny documentary, got me thinking when the lad said he always looked forward to going to Roker Park, completely agree. Also, stuart clarke saying there were so many places and shadow's etc. Would love the chance to experience the Fulwell end again. I have one of his photo's, first attempt at uploading a photo mind

I’m probably in that “younger fan” bracket, only went to RP once and too young to even remember it sadly! I would have loved to have gone to RP in its hey day though. I love old grounds over the sterile off-the-shelf kit grounds and I include the SOL in that, sadly. Give me a Northern League terraced stand any day of the week. Would love to do Hillsborough, I’ve been to Goodison which I loved (just a shame it was a dry bar!)

The bit in the club video where they are talking about being beaten by swindon and still going up, they show a few fans walking around the corner of Fulwell/Clock Stand corner and there's three of in the middle of the street right in the centre (never noticed the camera) coming right at it, long time ago now but I'd love to figure out how to get a still of that and get it up on the wall. Be a great present for the other two as well.
