Brilliant watch.
I love that photo and have often wondered who the people in it were.
A magical image in an instant, every football fan will relate to.

When this first came out on NF the only (dodgy) website that had it was a German one. It was on page 1 for 3 days. I had friends in the US and EU emailing me asking for a link because they couldn't find it anywhere, nee torrents, nee DDL's, nowt.

It seems that the German's have a soft spot for us.

Und Ja, ich sprechen die Deutsch (sehr schlecht. es tut mir leid)

I was one of the fans that met Uli at the glass centre and he told me about some of the other fans in the photo.

The best story was the lad that is gripping the railings. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a play with Ben Elton called the Beutiful Game and wanted to use the three lads at the front of the photo as the poster for the play.

Everything was agreed but when the play was about to open the young lad gripping the railings was seriously ill in hospital and prognosis was bleak. However the kid pulled through and is still with us today. Lloyd Webber couldn’t use the image to promote the play as planned but when it opened in the west end, the lads picture was draped either side of the entrance and is used on the soundtrack to the play.

Uli also showed me a pic of the corridor leading to his office. Amidst famous football pictures from world football is that pic of the Fulwell End!!

Absolutely wonderful - at the worst period in our club's history, someone picks out the positives and reminds the world of our history, support and importance of the club to our area.
'We are the loyalist, football supporters, the world ...'
It must be true. And great to see it recognised by people from afar.

It's because of Thomas Hauser.

Excellent that. Got quite emotional at the end.

I get why he’s saying we’ve won nowt. He means the last few generations. He was complimenting us saying despite all the shite we’ve all endured with nothing in return we still love the club. I still don’t understand why like. I think with me it could be that I don’t want to let my dad down.
Thank you mate. That last sentence really spoke to me - lost my dad when I was young, 39 years ago now. But he was proud to support the lads and despite me being born down here in the south where he moved for work after he left the RAF I’ve always felt the same and even though he’s gone it’s something we will always share. I go to games and no matter how fucked off I am if we lose or play shite I know he’d be delighted I’m still keeping the faith.

I remember the excitement of the new stadium and we obviously had to move. But I'm so pleased I got to see us play at Roker Park. The crackling speakers, the way the crowd moved on the terraces and the wind blasting in your face. the moments of pure crap and pure brilliance.

I also loved the fact that some interviewed were alerted to the pic when it was displayed in the lakes at that little museum of footy photos. It's all linked to our little part of the world where loads of us go on holiday camping as kids and probably went to the gallery cos it was pissing down as usual.

sometimes the hype and forced narrative around football and the beautiful game seems so fake these days , but that little piece is a great reminder of how genuine it can be. we are enjoying a brief moment in the sun at the minute thanks to that Netflix doc. It's a nice reminder that beneath all our frustrations we are , and have been, part of something special for as long as we've been wearing our red and white scarves or shirts. even if we haven't noticed it or always appreciated it.

thanks to the German guy for capturing it all in the modern age of YouTube.

Aye my old man will moan and that but we keep each other in. He got me into this so I can’t let him down really. Your old man sounds toppa.

Brought a tear to my eyes, loved Roker Park the atmosphere was unbelievable, proud to have been there, loads of happy memories and proud to be a Sunderland supporter.
