That's a very decent turnout.

I think last season N Shields had the highest home average at about 380 iirc. (And the highest away average)

It's just down the A19 man

Mebbes so but then what is your average away crowd for the Northern League??

However lets say you are right and attendance is what its all about, how do you explain this...

1987 SAFC average crowd 13,601

Pre sky boy attendance so lets go after that

1995 SAFC average crowd 15,344

2016 SAFC average crowd 43,071

Now I was part of all of them averages, were you??? And if you were part of them all, do you think we should be using the attendance argument????

Blokes with beards apparently

The problem is that Shields clearly don't want to be a non-league club, and are spending a hell of a lot of money to make sure they don't stay one for very long...

How far do you think they will get?

I think its great what they are trying to achieve and good luck to them but I can't see them ever entering the Football league. You only have to look at the likes of Hereford and Salford to see how hard it is. and at the end of the day, South Shields is split between us and the mags and that is the way it will stay IMO.

It's hard to say really, Gateshead have been flirting with the football league for the last few years, however it will be interesting to see if or when they hit a brick-wall will the crowds remain...

Yes I was part of all of those years that youve mentioned. Not quite sure what your point is though.
I was merely pointing out that a few year ago no one gave a fuk and people come on here as if theyve had season tickets for years. If they want to invest now and progress than people are going to want to watch them.
The attendances they are getting iare fantastic and it's good the locals are finally getting behind their home town team, it's a shame the folk of Gateshead don't follow suit.
The thing that sticks in my throat a bit is these people who claim to be Shields supporters but never went before Julio signed and think the sacking of Kingy is perfectly acceptable because the club is too big for him now

Well let's see?
It's an adventure and why not?
I think it's sustainable but time will tell.

i doubt that RichD, i think they could go as high as gateshead, possibility higher, the crowds will only get bigger the higher they move up the divisions and that is good for a town like shields, and to be fair its good for the region the more clubs from this region are higher up the football ladder

Gateshead's crowds are already declining. They were getting the odd 2000+ crowd in their play-off season. Think they had about 750 at their last home game. I'd guess Shield's home average is currently higher.

My point is, that going on your argument, then no one gave a shit about SAFC. If you really were part of all those years of shit crowds you would have endured the jawdee dribble about bigger gates means bigger club, better fans etc etc. The Mags use the attendance argument against us - SAFC, one of the grandest clubs in the country, 6 league titles, two FA cups, record North East attendance and played at one of the great homes of English football!!!!! Yet some SAFC fans on here are using the same Mag argument against the non league team of South Shields!!!!!

Any proper SAFC fan, pre SKY era would know better. Years ago, plenty of people did give a fck about South Shields., I was one of them but at the time they did noting of note to make a thread about them. Now they are.

As for Julio, the ironic thing is a lot of people go to watch him now is because they used to watch him for SAFC.

Yes we will see and coming form the Nook I really do hope Shields make a real good go and I'll support them doing it.

That night tho against Shrewsbury in 1987 sitting on one of the Fulwell End barriers and watching Dave Swindlehurst stick one into the back of the net and hearing that roar for the first time had me hooked on SAFC for life.
